Wow, people don't like comments about Darwin Awards and kids. Which is kinda weird cause the whole point is for them not to breed in order to help out the gene pool.

Adults earn a Darwin award by killing/sterilizing themselves by doing stupid things. Kids killing/sterilizing themselves is either kids being kids (IOW foolish and ignorant) or bad parenting. THEY'RE NOT THE SAME THING!

Just an update... The family was on the show wife swap. The dad was a past weatherman and was making a site about aliens and weird weather and magnetic patterns and storm chasers. The hot air balloon was custom and the bottom space was very small and made to put equipment in, not people. They said it was made out of card board and probably couldn't lift that much weight without being fully inflated. The kid is missing and they are doing a man hunt search for him. To me it sounds like a big hoax to get ratings and people going to his website. What 6 year old knows how to inflate an air balloon especially one that needs an adult to modify it first to inflate it. Mark my words.

The reporting on fox says that the balloon was inflated and tethered when this happened. Slipping a knot/peg (especially if poorly secured) is well within a 6yo's ability.

The craft came down, but was empty. They found the kid hiding in a box in the attic. The theory is he accidentaly let the "flying saucer" off it's moorings. According to the local police chief, it is not unusual for kids to hide when the police are looking for the, because they assume they are in trouble.

I expected the same thing to happen as many “experts” predicted that the balloon was too small to lift a child. I am suspicious liek you, the whole thing might have been a publicity stunt.

I expected the same thing to happen as many “experts” predicted that the balloon was too small to lift a child. I am suspicious liek you, the whole thing might have been a publicity stunt.

That's the consensus at my office.

Visual Studio is an excellent GUIIDE.
