In SA overtime need not be paid, just compensated, e.g. time off. Overtime is not an obligation but a privilege. Our labour law is impressive. One of the most progressive in the world.

Come to SA for 6 months or so. Job market here is a sellers market, and we live and eat normally, not raw animals on the street. And, rednecks fit in very well here. I'm serious - a man of your calibre will walk all over the market here. I'll teach you basic Afrikaans, like "fok jou en jou ma", etc.

I am sorry John! :( Is the project scrapped? Judging by your posts it seemed that you were the most qualified of all guys in terms of WPF knowledge and overall programming. It is hard to imagine they will let go a key person.

Nope - as far as I know the project hasn't been scrapped. It seems that each department had to pick two people, and I was the newest developer.

I submitted three resumes this morning from postings on Craigs List and (reluctantly) agreed to meet with a placement agency rep. There were more, but I wasn't qualified enough for them. I go for at least a 75% match on skills/requirements. If I can't match at least 3 of 4 stated requirements, I don't waste their time until it gets down to the short hairs on the duration of unemployment.

They say Obama wants to hand $250 to seniors, maybe you could apply for that :-D In all the seriousness though, GL with your job search.
