Yes, you were right. I can't beleive how much money and resources of tax payers and private entities went into the saga.
Well, just wait until the dad finds out he is not allowed to profit from a crime. I bet he will stop getting paid big bucks for tv shows he is doing, larry king, the today show. If you watch the video a couple of time you will notice some things. 1. The dad keeps looking down when talking. Sign of lying. 2. The kid pukes instanly from nerves when re-questioned. 3. The dad's eyes look like he hasnt had any sleep at all. Most people after a traumatic event happens go right to sleep from mental exhaustion. 4. They ask the dad what were you thinking when they found the balloon had landed and there was no one inside? He says oh when i got the news i was sitting at my desk in my office. Why wouldn't you be out searching for your kid thats missing, with the large search party? 5. They ask him if he was watching tv and seen how big the story was getting? He said no he didnt have cable tv. Yet it was all over the news local and cable and what type of storm chaser doesnt have tv for the weather channel. 6. Look at his reaction to being accused. He gets really mad. Why does he get so mad, he doesn't have to do public tv shows for money. 7. He called the news station first instead of 911?! When he found out his kid might be in there? Also if you are a parent and you think your kid has been taken by an air balloon wouldnt you get in your car and chase it. Damn i would be chasing it until it landed, they dont go very fast. I hope they put these bad parents in jail for neglect and lying.

Did you see the video of the balloon taking off (which they just happened to be taping)? The mother and father are both there, surely they'd know right away if the child was in there since a) you'd here the child start screaming, b) you'd see the deformation of the balloon caused by the weight of the child. I'm about 99% sure this is a stunt.

My understanding is that they were on a reality TV show earlier this year called Wife Swap. Two families swap wives/mothers. But, erm, I really don't think any "swinging" goes on.

That's bullshit. Kids do crazy things. My brothers and built huge balloons as kids among other things. In one case, I'm surprised we didn't burn down the forest next to our house.

I'm going to go ahead and say that I don't think it is a hoax or was done on purpose. Not a popular viewpoint, I know, but hear me out... I think the father knew that that balloon could not have lifted the boy and that he wasn't in there, but when he couldn't be found, the other son told him he was in the balloon and after a half-hour search of the property he was still missing... well, you have to start wondering if he just might be in the balloon after all. I recall my son playing in the front yard and when I went to call him in for dinner I couldn't find him. I walked around the house looking for him, but still nothing. I went inside and asked my wife where he was and she hadn't seen him either... Well, now we start to invent scenarios. Our minds start racing and we make a more urgent search around the house, calling his name, and I can hear the panic setting in in my wifes voice. I'm getting a little freaked out too.. *Where is he?* Of course, it turns out that he had come in, and was in his sisters room, where he never normally goes. But what if he hadn't turned up? You can bet your ass I would be calling police and launching a manhunt for him. And if by some bizarre coincidence, I had just launched a helium balloon in my back yard and my other child told me he might be in it... The scenarios playing out in those parents heads would have gone beyond simple abduction and neighborhood weirdos, straight to "holy crap, he's in the balloon!" I don't think this is a hoax. I think it is a bizarre set of circumstances that were amplified by a somewhat unconventional family, strange events and the balloon was an unfortunate red herring. As for the child throwing up and the the father looking like hell... that's pretty much expected. If that were me, I can *guarantee* that I would not have slept at all that night. I really don't believe it is a hoax.
