Named after the dogs. Isla Canis? Isle of Dogs? Canary Islands? Funnily enough there is an Isle of Dogs in Londons, and an Ile de Chien in Paris!

Yep, I should have remembered that from my visit earlier this year.

The proper name of the Islands is Ilsa Canarias, the Spanish for Islands of Dogs. They were named after the dogs they found there. The French for Dog is Chien, thus in Paris, Le Ile de Chien is the Isle of Dogs. A Canary is named after the Island, not the other way round. Also, if ever you are in London, do not mix up The Isle of Dogs with Barking.

Very good! I see where your railway termini were leading... Wouldn't a cockney put brass bands in gloves? ;) <<<----<<< Nota bene!

I have to point out that a cockney would not say 'ands' they would say 'Germans' as in German Bands which is the correct cockney slang for hands. Me old mum was a cockney (born within the sound of bow bells).

                        me, me, me
