How do you pronounce Ajax??

I don't know but I think it is pronounced in a different way than it's written, like Ayax maybe??
We will either find a way, or make one! (\ /) (- .-) C(''')(''')

Ay-Jacks (ā'jăks). As in, "That's why I switched to Aaayyyy Jacks!" A technique for asynchronous communication between a server and client-side script in a browser. An excellent cleaning product. And also some Greek guy, but he probably pronounced it wrong.

There once was a man from Germany whose yak was so long it, uh, hmmm, caused, no, that's not going to work either. Screw it, you're right, it doesn't work.

Thanks for trying! :D

I thought the football team was pronounced eye-axe.

I've always heard it pronounced that was in the US. Coincidentally, Ajax is for sale here too. Edit: or close to that; a slightly harder A than I think you're implying.

Do you mean a longer A, as in Aay-Jax. That's how it's pronounced over here and I thought I have heard Americans pronounce it the same way.

Gets pronounced locally here as "aah-jakhs", due to a washing powder and a major Dutch soccerclub with the same name. I doubt that it gets pronounced as a abbreviation, it'll get scoesie-fied. Wiktionary doesn't help either.
I are Troll :)
Wait, the washing powder and the soccerclub are pronounced the same way? In Greece we used to pronounce the first "AAHzaks" and the second "AAHyaks". In France I pronounce it "ahZAKS"(with thick z), and sometimes I pronounce it "EH-ee-jaks". Which gives 4 different ways I pronounce Ajax, depending on the mood and the listener

The Greek guy had the correct pronounciation ;P (but I don't know how it would be in the epoch, in modern Greek it's Aias, ie EH-ass)

We pronounce it just as it is written i.e. eye-axe, Ayaks...and I think americans english speakers are doing it wrong (just as they mangle Latin language :))

In the UK, both the washing powder and javascript are pronounced A-jacks. The Dutch football club is pronounced aye-axe (or aye-ax for those in the US. Jack Charlton (English footballer and Republic of Ireland team manager) used to work as a commentator on UK TV. He would always mispronounce the Dutch football club as if it were the washing powder. All the other presenters were far too polite to say anything, until the final broadcast on the day he retired :).
