Hi Folks, The Tour that we are putting on is meant to give this community a chance to come together, meet face to face, get some useful information, and some nice sponsor-provided goodies. Because of the time lines certain planning items are going to take time, but they will be firmed up shortly. I feel like this could be a really valuable and memorable Tour. We're talking to all kinds of interesting people about visiting with us for panel discussions and presentations. Microsoft has committed to send some of their people to help us make this a great event. Now its your turn... we need to get a sense of what the overall appeal of this Tour is going to be as we make our final plans. John, In this message, I am being just too lazy, as per popular demand, per previous messages in the Lounge. Please insert an HREF to the registration page in your "Stop by our registration page." Of course, the HREF should be connected to the registration page. I will seriously consider committing to having fun. I hope, I have gotten every t in the t's and ts and every m in the m's and ms, in the "committing" above alright. BTW, it should do no harm to you to visit my CWin32Error page on this site as a quarter-centurion rating user. (Us Indians tend to be a little fanatical about crickets and centuries, as you can surmise.) (Is it Us, or US, or We?) You, too, are invited, there. Decency, not to mention an awareness of the age-old factor, namely the (?) age, prevents me from saying a lot more. But, would you please also take care to tell international travellers to double-check the airport code for the San Jose leg of the event? As per my sources in Foo_Beer, no, Foo_Bar, no, foo_bar, no, fooBar, no.... I can't get it right. As per my sources in... you know what I mean... the airport code got changed from SFO to JFO. People at airport thought that would be better for the (?) cables. Reporterly, there were protests, from certain communities, that it should have been JLO. Others wondered why it had to be changed over to JFO or JLO when SFO was truthful enough! Still others thought thatta CFO was objectionable; nothing (and nobody) else. People in Seattle had never committed to comment. Some of them were busy packing for O Hare, closer to Washington. (Please do insert an apostrophe at some place suitable above, as necessary.) Others were busy stamping the box with IDispatch, closer in Washington. Still others thought it was just fun, in the (?) net. We've had a ton of requests about a European tour so we'll have to investigate the costs involved and the number of potential attendees to see if we can make a European tour fly. Obviously a N. American tour is easiest, but we will just have to see! Personally I'm trying to justify a Hawaiian leg of the tour, or maybe a Bahamas stop-off, followed by a Whistler/Blackcomb extravaganza, but the guys don't seem to be taking my requests seriously. cheers, Chris Maunder

It came up eventually for me - I'm still not used to the questionable connectivity we have here... :/

Ours. I usually post from work, and "work" is on a military base. If you've never had to put up with the security nazis on a military base, you are really missing out. We were recently required to change our passwords without any heads up from the security folks. We all had to find out (one rule at a time) how to enter a new password. 1) It must be greater than 10 characters long (I expected this) 2) It must contain at least one numeric character 3) It must contain at least one uppercase alphabetic character 4) It must contain at least one lowercase alphabetic character 5) It must contain at least one special character (punctuation) 6) No two consecutive characters can be letters On top of that, the system scans all of the systems at least once per hour to see what's going on, they monitor our web access to make sure we're not visiting porn sites, they don't allow IRC or news server access, and they are constantly updating our anti-virus software. It's really amazing how badly the network is maintained here (Brooks AFB, San Antonio), too. It seems like we loose email or web access at least once per week, and many times, we just plain can't get to some sites for some reason. Sometimes, the network burps and we accidently get through to the internet. I wear that this is the world's only living breathing cluster-f*ck. :)
