VS2010 beta2 and C++

Tried VS2010 beta and looks cool as usual. The code-completion is amazing even though it takes some time to parse the include files for large projects. Editor is recognizing C++0X RValue reference declarator and auto keyword. But compared to GCC, VS compiler is still producing poor error messages. It is sad that they haven't done much work to improve the compiler and error messages. I was expecting C++/CLI intellisense support on beta2, but it is not yet supported. :( .

While they got the text rendering to look good, it still bleeds a lot. I really hope they get that fixed, as that would be a showstopper for me. You can see the bleeding effect in most menu/tab items. Also notably visible on lines with breakpoints.

Basically they bit off more they could chew in replacing it* with the new intellisense engine (an overdue change, it has to be said), and had to own up to the fact that C++/CLI support wouldn't be there in time. It's the same I'm old story I'm afraid (remember the Class Designer in VS2005?) so it's clear (to me at least) that their development processes still aren't as efficient as they could be. * By definiton, had they refactored it instead it would still be working! Which is shame, because AFAIK Microsoft has put a lot of efforts in C++\CLI. In fact the C++ team is bigger than C# team because of this. I really wish them to spend all this resources on MFC – the only MC technology which was terribly outdated in the day it was first introduced and it barely changed since then.
The narrow specialist in the broad sense of the word is a complete idiot in the narrow sense of the word. Advertise here – minimum three posts per day are guaranteed.

His name *means* Dawn. Different languages and cultures associate words with different genders. Joan is a man's name in parts of Spain. Nikita is a man's name in Russia.

It really is annoying to see the intellisense gone in vs2010 (and i mean GONE). Since they rebuilt the intellisense for native c++ why couldn't they put in the intellisense for c++/cli for native types only etc? It really goes to show they could care less about CLI. But hey we have a new (slow piece of crap WPF) IDE.

I am a proponent of C++/CLI like you. I asked about the C++/CLI intellisense support to Herb Sutter on his blog and he said all future versions of VS will have support for C++/CLI. They recently moved to EDG front end and EDG doesn't have C++/CLI support. Hope intellisense will be back soon. :)

Microsoft have a connect bug registered for this (ID#501921), maybe if enough people express an interest, they might get the implementation of this into the first service pack. - you never know :)
