MovieMaker In Windows 7

If you're not happy with MovieMaker "Live" in Windows 7, you can use XP's version (much more capable from what I hear). Just copy the XP Program Files\MovieMaker folder to any folder on your Windows 7 system, and register the DLLs (the three DLLS with RES in the filename don't need to be registered). Once you do that, XP's MovieMaker will work just peachy in Windows 7.

Jystad, 2001First I thought the Windows 7 Movie Maker was defect, since all features seem to be missing. After some time I figured out most of what I need. But compared to Apples solutions, the Microsoft ones still suck.

Jystad, 2001The MovieMaker in Vista is better than XP's version (i.e. more functional and more stable) and runs just great under Windows 7. I've got MM6 from x64 Vista running fine under x64 Win7. If I had the link to the article I used to do this handy I'd post it. Nag me if you want it. Cheers.

Jystad, 2001You can just grab a copy from nearest vista machine, as i did to have WMM for x86 on 64-bit vista. WMM Live sure does looks and works like crap, but hey, i remember the earliest beta, it was more like, just video cutter\trimmer. Also good thing is that Live does work with matroska (ogg, flv etc) however it still needs codecs (like ffdshow) to render them.

Yes well, I'm still not sure as to whether to make the jump to W7. I mean, it looks all nice and peachy, but I have as yet been unable to find someone who can answer me questions like "Besides the pretty stuff, how does this work?" whenever I go to a place to buy it. I'm not talking our local Harvey Norman either, I'm talking specialist custom PC ships who should know this stuff. What happened to when things just worked? No matter how damn ugly they were? I don't think MSDOS or Windows 3.1 ever won any beauty awards. So far Windows 7 is under developed for me, I know it's gonna be a pain, but I might go the extra step and go from Windows XP to Windows 8, it's things like this movie maker thing that make me not like it. Hell, half the time my Broadband drops out and I have to go back to Dialup. What happens to people like me when my net is only 50kb/s instead of the preferred 512kb/s that seems to be the minimum now?? I'll tell you, nothing works! -Kaster
