For what seems like the nine zillionth time in my career I'm gearing up to have 'that conversation' with a manager. The one where I say that administrative accounts are for trained sysadmins, not special accounts for the people calling the shots. It's got to the stage now where my latest system designs include an account tier with slightly more privileges just to cater for this mode of thought. Is it just me or does everybody go through this?

Let them delete something critical and crash the system. Then laugh as they pick up the pieces. And then be fired for giving them too much privilege. Hmmm, flaw in my plan. And I can't really relate. My problem is most often that I have to wait days to get proper permission so I can do my work effectively.
Visual Studio is an excellent GUIIDE.

The wife calls the people that "require" admin rights on their machines to do things they don't actually need to be an admin for "special." So she asks them if they need to be in the "special class" and often times they get worried because of how she sweetly asks and the gleam in her eye. Some alter or cancel their request. Deep down inside the smart ones recognize the smile of a killer and fear for their lives. The ones that don't get exactly what they want and after they screw something up she leaves them hanging for a bit and toys with them, much like a cat with a mouse. None will say anything bad about her, but some shiver slightly in fear at her passing. And on that note I tie this into another thread... 6 years ago I married the most wonderful woman on the planet! :)

How? She was already married to me! [edit] Jus speaking to Mrs Wife on the mobile thing. She was walking across Parliment Square and there was an almighty wolf-wistle, I even heard it, for her. The stakes are thus raised. [/edit]
Panic, Chaos, Destruction. My work here is done.

So I just need to master the art of insinuating a threat to a someone's personal safety? :)

Windows Server has a group called "Power User" which has some but not all of the rights of an "Administrator". There is also a "Backup User"
