Teen Diagnosed With Guillain-Barre Syndrome After Swine Flu Shot
-
A high school athlete from Virginia was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome hours after receiving a swine flu shot, but health authorities are attempting to dismiss the connection as a coincidence, precisely as they resolved to do long before the H1N1 vaccination program even started. 14-year-old Jordan McFarland developed severe headaches, muscle spasms and weakness in his legs following a swine flu shot. He was diagnosed by doctors at Inova Fairfax Hospital as having Guillain-Barre syndrome, the nerve disorder that was prevalent in recipients of the vaccine during the last mass swine flu vaccination program in 1976. “Connin and Jordan’s father, Calvin McFarland, both 38, believe the shot sparked the illness that came on 18 hours after the boy’s vaccination,” reports MSNBC. Despite GBS’s clear historical link with the swine flu shot, allied with the fact that health officials back in August warned neurologists that they needed to look out for increases in cases of the brain disorder following the launch of the immunization program, asked about the case of McFarland, the CDC’s Dr. Claudia J. Vellozzi claimed that there was “no clear link between the new vaccine and the disease.” Efforts on behalf of health authorities to claim that debilitating side-effects and nerve disorders such as GBS have no connection to the vaccine, despite the fact that they are clearly listed on vaccine inserts as potential dangers, is unsurprising considering this is precisely what officials resolved to do before the swine flu mass vaccination program began. Back In September, Reuters reported on how public health officials were expecting “an avalanche of so-called adverse event reports, which are reports of death, illness or other health trauma,” in the two weeks after people receive the vaccine. “We are going to be overwhelmed with potential events,” said Mike Osterholm, a public health expert at the University of Minnesota. Authorities therefore resolved to dismiss any connection to the swine flu shots a host of heart attacks, strokes and miscarriages that “will be blamed on the H1N1 vaccine,” effectively performing a blanket diagnosis months in advance. Earlier this month, the U.S. government appointed what the media ludicrously billed as an “independent” group of health advisors who were tasked with whitewashing adverse reactions to the swine flu vaccine and ‘explaining’ them to the public as mere coincidence. The group is headed up by none other than Dr. Marie McCormick of the Harvard School o
Apparently it is KNOWN side effect of flu vaccines, not swine-flu in particular. It is sad yes but:
Most of the time recovery starts after the fourth week from the onset of the disorder. Approximately 80% of patients have a complete recovery within a few months to a year
Lets revisit thios six-months down the line, becasue I'm *sure* you'll be keen to tell us when the kid makes a full recovery... Please remove your head from your ass so that you can read more clearly and maybe hear what others say.
Panic, Chaos, Destruction. My work here is done.

Option A: Swine flu hits. No vaccine. Tens of thousands of people with weak immune systems or underlying conditions die. Option B: Swine flu hits. Only a few thousand people die because the rest have been vaccinated. Vaccine side effects kill a few dozen people, many of which are among the group that would have died had you chosen Option A. Option C: Swine flu hits. You don't have a vaccine ready, because you're still trying to figure out how to make one without the chemicals that cause side effects. Same result as Option A. Pick one.

Fact check: Hundreds of millions of people have or will be vaccinated against H1N1, possibly billions. GBS is only one side-effect by the way, one of the more serious ones. Lets not forget about the effects that are not seen until later down the road. If you are going to talk the talk and not walk the walk, then you shouldn't be here. If you haven't taken your shot then you are not walking the walk.

Riiight... I caught the swine flu before the vaccine was available... Coughed my guts out for a couple days, felt miserable for a week, and then I was fine. Now I'm no doctor, but I really don't think the vaccine would do anything for me now. So... Side effects... You know what those tend to include? Mild problems that may be experienced include soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given, fainting (mainly adolescents), headache, muscle aches, fever, and nausea. If these problems occur, they usually begin soon after the shot and last 1-2 days. Life-threatening allergic reactions to vaccines are very rare. If they do occur, it is usually within a few minutes to a few hours after the shot is given. (Source)//www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/vaccination/vaccine_safety_qa.htm[^] The vast majority of side effects are insignificant. According to Wikipedia, a whopping 25 people died from side effects from the 1976 vaccine (500+ hospitalized, but recovered) (Source)[^] You're running out of ammo, CSS. You're going to have to do a lot better than this.

Right, so the three days out of work coughing up copious amounts of phlegm was just a hallucination? How about addressing the issues instead of making up excuses? Or are you admitting that the vaccine does much more good than harm?

Create a vaccine. Give it to a whole lot of people. Put on a tin hat and try to find anyone who got sick after their shot. Blame the shot. Sell videos. Make money off stupid people. At least the people you're linking have a business plan.

Is that how yours manifested? Makes me wonder if I had it earlier in the fall. I had about a week there where I was coughing up large amounts of phlegm all day long, but they said I didn't have the flu (I didn't have a fever, but then, I rarely do). Were you sore all over too?

Don't remember much other than coughing so hard that my throat hurt... That kind of eclipsed everything else. I'm pretty sure I had a fever for at least part of it (Don't own a thermometer, but cold sweats are usually a giveaway)... Normally, the only times I ever get sick are when the flu comes around... Knocks me out for a day, and I'm back in the game... This one was definitely worse than the average flu, but entirely survivable... Been a long time since I've been out of commission for three straight days. Can't even remember the last time.

I had the chills too, and the sore throat. And I usually don't get very sick either, but this one put me down for three or four days (plus another week or so of feeling too crappy to do anything fun, but not crappy enough to skip work). I probably should have gone to the doctor, but as I do have some allergies, I figured it was probably one of them acting up coupled with fatigue. I don't guess there's any way they can test and see if you've had the flu, is there? Other than the blatantly obvious and dangerous way.

Not sure... I have no allergies and no underlying conditions, so I don't think it could have been anything else. I take the subway to work every day, so plenty of opportunities to catch it.
