The article says: 'They worked with Madoff from 1990 and 1991, respectively' I believe Visual Studio 6 was released around the year 1999 so that would exclude VB5/6 entirely. If I had to make a guess... I would say COBOL as thats what most financial institutions were using in the early 90's because of backing from large corporations such as IBM. So these schmucks knew what they were doing was illegal and were happy to accept a salary for doing it and when it blew up in their faces accepted $60k from a multi billion fraud scheme. Yep some of us just aren't cut out to be businessmen. Except for the illegal part I have been down this track, build something useful for someone and not realise the value of your work and watch the other guy walk away with millions :sigh: .

That means they started with Madoff in those years. Later in the article "They were accused of knowing that the computer programs they developed in 2003 and 2004 contained fraudulent information used in U.S. and European regulatory reviews." No matter. I'm just curious if there is a VB6 defense. "Your Honor - my clients didn't have Option Explicit turned on! It's not their fault!" ;P

I thought Madoff had a "secret" server room that was effectively empty. What did he use programmers for?

To maintain the "virtual" servers. :-D

And in those days $60 was a considerable sum. These guys are in their mid-late 40s they are not starving newbies. And I agree that they must have been cobol workers, almost the exclusive tool of financial systems in those days.

That's exactly what I was thinking... only 60K out of 65 BILLION? And they knew how much money was going through the system. Jeesh, I'd at least have had it sent some place secret.... I agree, no businessmen here.

Let that be a lesson to Ian Shlasko, he thinks that since his income comes from illegal financial institutions and hedge funds that they are good and that he just doing his job.

They could have used Turbo C++! :) VB did not exist in 1990.
