Coming to America

AFAIK the "crazy" sniper is only going after women and children. I think that he has only shot one man. I think the sad thing is that this guy is doing it all for attention and that is exactly what the media is giving him. Now that guy is starting to leave notes around the crime scene to tease the police. I am just as curious as everyone else, but I wonder what would happen if this guy did not appear on the news, I wonder what he would do then?

Me neither, it up on dictionary.com and it appeared, so it was just a guess. I know it is slang, probably short for cukoo. So maybe it could be spelled "cuk" as well :)

You are the intrepid one, always willing to leap into the fray! A serious character flaw, I might add, but entertaining. Said by Roger Wright about me.

A lease on a car will cost about $300 - $400 a month with $2000, $3000 due at signing. You could also plan on getting a used car for about $3000 - $4000 and sell it when you go back. Car insurance should run about $750 a year. Make sure your employer pays for the medical insurance, its quite high in the US. I should have said that the company will lease a car for me, and pay for medical insurance. Even if they dont pay for petrol, it's quite a lot cheaper in the US. Stuart van Weele wrote: Oh my, yes. There is also good fishing, and sailing along most of the atlantic. Excellent.

Hi all, It's looking very likely that my company will be sending me to the good ol US of A in about five months to work with a customer located close to Baltimore. The duration of my stay will likely be at least 18 months. Now, I won't be staying in Baltimore. Some other guys from work are already there, and they live out from it a ways. Now I've got a couple of questions. 1) Seeing as work is paying for accomodation I dont have to worry about that, but I am interested in what the costs of living are like there. Specifically, how much is Cable TV and broadband internet? ;P 2) Is there much to see and do in that region of the US? I've been to Washington and N.Y. on holidays before, so I'm sure I'll head to DC and check out (more) of the Smithsonian and other things like that; is there much more? 3) Any CPians live in that area?
Hello! Londo wrote: 1) Seeing as work is paying for accomodation I dont have to worry about that, but I am interested in what the costs of living are like there. Specifically, how much is Cable TV and broadband internet? Hrmm... the cable/broadband internet depends on where you live, I think. I have comcast and for basic cable and internet access it's about $80 US. Londo wrote: 2) Is there much to see and do in that region of the US? As for what to do in and around Baltimore, check out the Baltimore City Paper and Baltimore Sun. As for the DC area check out the Washington Post. This provides the big picture about the two cities... :-D

Baltimore itself (other than the inner harbor) is a pit. The main thing you need to worry about is getting your own car. Public transport in the US is rather limited. You are going to have to drive to get almost anywhere in the US.
Stuart van Weele: Car insurance should run about $750 a year. You must be living in heaven, cause in NJ where i live car insurance is the number one killer of drivers. It's so freakin high. It's a sh*tty world. Take advantage of whom ever when ever you can.

I live about 30 minutes west of DC, 1:30 from Baltimore. I lived near Baltimore for 5 years before moving to my current location. There is much to see and do within a 4 or 5 hour drive of Baltimore. Much U.S. history, such as Williamsburg, VA and Gettysburg, PA. There are many nightclubs in the Georgetown area of DC. You can sail, boat, fish, and visit beaches (Hilton Head, SC is nice). You can put your car on a train and travel to Florida overnight, see Disney World, etc. As I said, much to do. Ed Gadziemski Ashburn, VA USA

Yes, but if you live almost anywhere else but NJ the insurance rates are not so bad. NJ has the either the highest or second highest rates in the nation.
