I don't understand your question. Essentially, all programmers are prostitutes, except that we get paid UNTIL we get screwed, not afterward.

Well if the 2 jobs are essentially the same I understand why prostitution is more enjoyable: they make more money and, maybe, an orgasm sometimes.

Of all forms of sexual aberration, the most unnatural is abstinence.

Or maybe just the even more basic human need for quality interaction with other humans which we don't get enough of as developers on average.

So Dr. Brooke Magnanti is a respected researcher in neurotoxicology and cancer epidemiology that worked as a prostitute years ago to help pay for her PhD. However, prostitution was not the only job she had: She found an escort agency and started her secret life. “I did have another job at one point, as a computer programmer, but I kept up with my other work because it was so much more enjoyable.”[^] :sigh: :( Could this be one reason why there are so few women in our field?:~

Currently there are fewer available positions in the programming field. On the other hand, System.IO improves the availability of the old in-out.

I so want to mention the quality of management being better for them, but I think that might be about equal.

When compared to sitting in a dark room, staring at a computer screen, and having no contact at all with the rest of humanity? Even 0.0000001 is greater than zero.

Maybe... but personally, I'd rather talk to strangers at the supermarket, do volunteer work or find a new hobby or something if I was that desperate for human company. Hell, even some kind of internet dating site would be a better bet than a random hooker. I can't even begin to imagine what kind of low I would have to hit to think my only chance of "quality interaction" came from prostitutes. :(

"Belle" was a high end callgirl with many regular clients and providing far more than sex, not a hooker working on a street corner giving bj's in a back alley somewhere.

What does Sarah Palin have to do with this? (Sorry, couldn't help myself) So far today I came in for half a day and I have talked with ZERO people. I am fairly confident tomorrow I will come in, do my thing and at least 3 other people in my area will not know I was out all morning when our weekly meeting happens. During this meeting we will discuss the budget/job situation, I will be referred to as a canary again (think miners finding out if there is a gas pocket, great system for the miner, not so much for the canary) and I will come back to my cubicle and do more QA. I bet call girls don't have conversations where they are compared to animals you keep around so they can die before you do. And if they did, I think they would either use mace and run or discontinue seeing that client...
