I wanted to try XP Mode, so I downloaded and installed it. I already had Virtual PC 2007 installed, so naturally nothing works anymore. Can't uninstall KB95899, can't install it again, and VPC (after working fine for 3 days) is "incompatible" and won't run. Oh and after all that, I discover I would have needed more RAM anyway. I only have 2GB and it needs that for XP Mode alone. Now I'm faced with reinstalling 7 so I can use VPC again.

Strange. I just followed the instructions provided by Microsoft to install XP mode under Windows 7 and it worked great. Installed on Dell XPS portable with 2GB memory. All applications ran under XP with no problems. Runs just as fast as my standalone XP systems. Ken :)

Okay, so how much is recommended? I've had my eye on a 4GB box but based on this post I don't know if that's enough to run both XP Mode and the Weven OS. So I'm interested in what you determine.

I recently tried VirtualBox and it constantly crashed. It crashed during the XP install. I was able to install Windows 2008 Server, unfortunately it's not stable. So I gave up and went back to Virtual PC. (In the time I was able to run it and putting aside stability issues, I didn't find it any better than Virtual PC.)

I can't picture our users starting up VBox, signing in and starting apps. XP Mode videos look much easier, transparent. I've reinstalled Win 7, and when I get more RAM I will try this again without VPC already installed.
