          I got one of these[^]a year or so ago. Don't remember if it was an xmas or bday gift.

            The Lawrence Hall of Science started making accelerator trees paper weight back in the 70's. They were round 2" Lucite rods 6 inches tall. They were made at the Lawrence National Lab, Berkeley. A grad student would load the rods at the end of the accelerator between tests; the particle would crash into the road fracturing the Lucite. The trees helped fund some small projects at Lawrence National Labs.

              Unless it's a different process than what's being talked about in the linked article the fractures don't occur until the Lucite is discharged.
