Hmmmm, well if opinion on it is starting to drop, I may give MSE a try! Opinions on here of software are usually a safe bet.

You bet me. I've had a bad opinion on Microsoft AV program previously (known as OneCare), but then later on I liked it[^]. MS has put in some serious efforts to bring it to where it is now. If or not will it continue to be good is a different question. However, I'm going to think that they've learned from their past experience on this front and MSE will remain to be good. :)

You sure this has nothing to do with the fact you're an MVP now and don't want to do a 'Graus'? ;P Just a joke, Rajesh, just a joke.
Cheers, Vikram. (Got my troika of CCCs!)

That's what I'm using on my Weven box... Had Avast running on it when it was still Vista, and still have Norton on my old XP box. MSE is stable and unobtrusive, and seems to play nicer than Avast did... But I don't know whether the detection rate is as good. I'm NAT'ed, NoScript'ed, and excessively paranoid about downloads, so I don't exactly test my AV software very well.

I see you're just joking, but the fact that CG lost his MVP status was because he stopped contributing to the Visual C++ community. Sure, he may have his opinion, but I too have been bashing MS publicly on several instances. I don't think that it would have anything to do with the MVP award.

It's been rated Advanced+ (the highest one can achieve) in the retrospective tests conducted by AV-Comparatives in Nov 2009: See the report here (WARNING: PDF)[^] It is standing amongst commercial quality software!

Wow... Didn't expect something like that from Microsoft... I'm impressed.

Many a times. Although, I will not call it crap. It just has a bit more false positives than others. Only thing you need to check is is the virus (according to avast) actually virus. I have once deleted one of my virtual machines because of it.
50-50-90 rule: Anytime I have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability I'll get it wrong...!!
I did the same thing (but not so accidentally.) I did surf the web on my weven virtual machine, and Avast on the host decided there was a virus... But it didn't really matter to me because the time was up for the RC. And btw, I have decided to stay with XP x64. (I can borrow my brother's computer if I need x32, but it's Vista...)
