http://news.cnet.com/8301-13860_3-10409175-56.html?tag=mncol I wonder how many people switched back to google. It also a bit sad that MS can't even keep its own search engine up and running. Don't they have a test environment to try all the changes before they put changes in production?

I don't know that snarking is appropriate. Their biggest rival's last major failure[^] took 1/3rd longer to recover from.

I've set it as home page, for the nice picture :) Sometimes I accidentally use it for search, but the results are rather appaling.

Personally, I love the idea that Raymond spends his nights posting bad regexs to mailing lists under the pseudonym of Jane Smith. He'd be like a super hero, only more nerdy and less useful. [Trevel]

Yes, the pictures are awesome. Once a week I go to Bing site and scroll through all the pictures.

Of course it's appropriate. They both deserve it when they goof up. I doubt either really cares but it provides us a little fun.

Replace the word "Bing" in the subject with something else, and I might be interested...

The bigger question is how many people may have noticed it in the first place. Who is using Bing anyway? ;P

I would think so but in my experience no matter how much you test in the test environment something escapes to production. This might be one of those things.

I much prefer Bing for normal searches. The Google maps are better, but I rarely use Google any more.

If Bing gives you a Page Not Found error, does it help to search for it with Google?

In my experience Google provides superior search results over Bing when it comes to looking for programming information, particularly Microsoft platform programming information.

Google Search wasn't down as such but it was unusable for a short while, i.e., every link produced a spurious malware message. I can't remember how many minutes it happened for.

This week Microsoft foolishly asked my opinion of MSDN Search and VS2008 Help in general. In short form, I told them that the only way to find anything remotely relevant to the question asked of MSDN is to search for it using Google.
