Mobile platform
-
A debate is going on around here these days about starting a project for a mobile platform. One of the biggest question marks is the platform. Which would would you choose, if you start a new project, now? iPhone, Android, Symbian, Maemo... anything else?
Where it seems there are only borderlines, Where others turn and sigh, You shall rise!

You should research each platform's market share. I think symbian has the biggest, and is also the suckiest platform.

Do some market research. Identify who your target audience is and determine through research what platforms they favor. For example, in the warehouse/scanner market, Windows Mobile would be the overwhelming choice. Unfortunately, that's the only place I can think of where the answer is beyond obvious.

What's your business? Don't forget Blackberry development. Not as fun as iPhone dev (which is only fun in comparison to say Symbian) but strong amongst business users. Also, mobile-web is picking up. HTML5 is providing enough features to make for usable mobile web-apps. Palm's WebOS is web-based, but runs locally. Depends really on the interaction you require.
cheers, Paul M. Watson.
