Coffee
-
I don't usually work from home, but today is one of those times when I decided to. Thus I was privileged to see how my wife makes coffee. I should mention that she is not really a morning person. Watching her "process" now explains several things, one, why she doesn't always like the coffee she gets, two, why we can go through so much. Apparently her technique is to use about 2 coffee cups worth of water. Then stumble over to where the grounds are kept and dump, not spoon, in coffee till the filter is almost completely full. It seems to me this is not the best way to make coffee, but what do I know, I'm just a man.

If I did not have a grind and brew I would create some really nasty coffee. Before the first cup I am basically on auto pilot in a state that I would call just above a sleep walk. Anyways the grind and brew I use 1 scoop of beans for 2 x 32 ounces (plastic 32 oz cup) of water. Oh, forgot to say the SO makes it much simpler by cleaning all the parts for me and leaving them out on the counter in front of the coffee maker. She knows that without that I am bound to miss adding the filter causing a really big mess on the counter top...

You should be ashamed! That's a massive loss of man points right there - consult with JSOP to confirm the exact amount. What's next? An admission that you drink hot cocoa? :)

Sound's like the correct Water:Grounds ratio to me. But then, I'm a Tea Or Espresso person, no "normal" coffee for me.

Personally, I love the idea that Raymond spends his nights posting bad regexs to mailing lists under the pseudonym of Jane Smith. He'd be like a super hero, only more nerdy and less useful. [Trevel]

I've given up trying to help with this one. I've bought all sorts of different coffee here in NYC, and none of it meets her standards. Granted when we do go to Poland, they do have good coffee there, but I find it somewhat hard to understand how *nothing* in the US is up to snuff. Oh well, chalk it up to one of life's little mysteries :)

Useualy depends on preference of "strength". Most of my friends and I agree in the 3-4 spoons for 10 serving cups worth. personal preference is 4-5 so sounds close to what your wife makes. I find the more I'm designing, the stronger the coffee gets. The more I'm coding I revert to the 3-4 spoons method ( along with a little hot chocolate for taste). as always personal taste, I know a girl who loves expresso strong so will dump alot in. ;d

Yeah, what the hell happened there? Did Steve Ballmer go over to his house and offer him a roomful of Playboy Bunnies in exchange for playing with Azure? Did he slip John some rufies?

I just smelled what was in the coffee pot. I'm pretty sure this is *way* beyond expresso. I think this might be a completely new substance.

That explains it all. American coffee is /generally/ very week; where else can you get a de-caf espresso. How is she making the coffee? Here maybe the soltion, buy her a good espresso machine for Christmas and find a roaster in NYC who will supply a very strong espresso grind for her. You will gain 837,493[1] attaboys for it. [1] 1,000,000,000 attaboys can be exchanged with the wife for 'that'[2]. [2] No, the other thing that she did before you married her.

JSOP rang a bell as an acronym besides serving as a reference to Mr. VB HimSelf, so I looked it up[^]. One definition entry kindda jumped off of the screen, I'll omit which one it was... //L

You think that's bad, you should try being English and trying to get a decent cup of tea. Once you are out of the UK it's seemingly impossible.

I consume whole beans, and grind them in my throat by flexing my testicles for 20 seconds. Once they've been sufficiently ground (the beans, not the testicles), I pour boiling water into my mouth and let the tissues of my stomach filter the caffeine directly into my bloodstream. That's the correct way to make "instant" coffee. Evacuation of the resulting waste product is probably best left for another discussion (probably in a completely different universe so as not to offend the overly abundant pansies that inhabit this forum). EDIT =============== BTW, how's that 3-d monkeyturkey thing coming along?

Only the individuals that want to ensure their manliness do. Most of the Indians don't, though (you can read that any way you'd like).\

Nope, just seeing if I can win a Kindle. Otherwise, I wouldn't have bothered. That's part of being an American man, only interested in "what's in it for me".

If I offend the wrong pansy, I'll get banned, and then you guys will be without a role model. That means I'm more concerned with making sure that men will remain men, so + 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 points for looking out for those less fortunate than I. Face it - you guys need me around.
