I'm not sure if those of you outside of the US get NBC shows including the reality show "The Sing-Off" (referred to as TSO from now on) which gives A Capella groups a chance at a recording deal. I really only started watching it because one of the judges, Ben Folds, is a secret celebrity crush of mine. However, I have been impressed with the talent. However, tonight, the final, is an over-the-top, super-sappy-saturated positive comment-fest of how great the last three groups are. They are now down to the final two, and the kudos are worse than a U.S. Senator trying to vie for support for the Health Care Bill. (Don't get me started on Ben from Nebraska....) The show would seem such more genuine if they took out this over-the-top crappiness. These groups are good though. Any thoughts from those who watched?

I think they need to have a American Metal Idol. Then it might be good.

'fraid I cant see it from here (Aus).. and although I initially years back thought A Capella would be cr@p, I actually dont mind it - mind you, Im leaning towards Barber-Shop quartets and in my younger days there was a group called 'Swingle' who were fairly 'light' .. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Swingle_Singers[^] http://www.swinglesingers.com/[^]

There were a couple of groups that were more traditional barber-shop quartets, but many are a cappella groups of 10 people or more! Some were male only, carrying on American college traditions, and some were mixed sexed. I think a cappella groups became popular after "stepping" became a college fad.
