Happy New Year to all!

I see what you mean :) I like texting, I must be in the younger generation
I know you believe you understood what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize what you heard is not what I meant.
Me, too! ;P

When I was a kid growing up in India (in the 60s), our elementary school teachers would ask each of us on the first day of the term (in early Jan) to stand up and proclaim our New Year resolutions. Most of the time if was stuff we made up like "I will not fight with my sister.", "I will do better at school", etc. In 4th grade I had the bright idea of saying "I promise not to make any more New Year resolutions". Surprisingly, Ms. Pinto didn't find it funny. My New Year resolution for the past 5 years has been 2048 x1536, a goal yet to be attained. I think I know at least one of your New Year resolutions - I believe it has to do with freeing humanity from the clutches of CD. And I applaud you for that. :) /ravi

I made a resolution about 30 years ago to procrastinate more. It's the only one I ever kept, perhaps because I haven't got around to making any others since.

When cells came out here, or rather when I got my first, I only noticed a fairly useless feature, mentioned in the manual, called SMS. I ignored it until a friend, also now 40, showed me how simple it was, and how it is less 'intrusive' that a call. I was hooked for life.

The caretaker, Percival "Bubba" Smythe assures me the condo is also fortified against asteroid bombardment, and the rent includes five years of "Wheel of Fortune" reruns, including the coveted "Big Words That Are Hard To Pronounce" episode." My phone has SMS, but it can only receive, not send them. How weird is that?

Sounds like the iPhone, which couldn't send MMS for the longest time (and could only get one by viewing it on your computer in a browser window given the password sent to your phone).

It's nothing that fancy - Motorola i580. It uses MMS for everything, except kindly reminders from Nextel that my service will be shut off if I don't pay up really quick.

I actually have a question on this one. For those outside of the United States, is it customary to make "New Year's Resolutions?" Did you ever have to write them down in school for example? Are they considered a joke? Also, what are the traditions for New Year's Eve in other countries? Anything specific to your family that you do yearly and look forward (or maybe not look forward to!) each year? I started a blog about New Years so I'd like non-US cultural references if possible. Thanks for any responses and all the best to all at CP--no matter what day it is! --Leckey

Here we have a "polar bear" swim on new years day where everyone wears funny costumes and takes a dip in the ocean. However today it's above freezing and raining so I think I'll skip it this year.
