Alarm on Windows mobile ... when it is off
-
I can't believe that the alarm on Windows mobile 6 (my smartphone) can't work if the phone is powered off. Of course this is due the fact that the OS is off and every software can'n run. The strange fact is that the phone (samsung c6625) has also an 'auto-power-on' function that works perfectly. It is really strange that there isn't any automatic way to combine the alarm to that power-function!! Anyone have a good solution?

Thats weird:confused: Most computer BIOS's have a "Wake up at this time/date" sort of function, so I'm surprised that function wasnt put into the phone :( Even my normal mobile phone can turn itself on with an alarm!
I know you believe you understood what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize what you heard is not what I meant.

Sorry to know that. :) I use a very normal Nokia phone (supernova, to be precise[^]) and I set up an alarm, switch it off and go to sleep every night. The phone switch itself on when the alarm is due, and the alarm rings. When I wake up and cancel the alarm, it asks me if I'd like the phone powered on or turn itself off. Even the most basic Nokia models do this.

Same with the iPhone. It's got to be on standby as far as I know for the alarm to work. I never switch it off so it's never been a problem for me.

My latest book : C++/CLI in Action / Amazon.com linkThe same for my Samsung: if in a sort of standby state it save battery consume and lets work the alarm. But, I mean, it is not acceptable that a basic function like that (that was perfecly working on phones more then 10 years ago) now has this kind of limitations. Less tools instead more tools.... very nice way to develop. Next step will surely be: "The clock on the screen of the phone is hide (for unknown reasons), but you can see it during a phone-call and pressing at the same time the special button CLOCK ... this don't work if it is raining or if you are on a train sitted looking in the opposite direction of march" absurd!

You think that's bad? When my phone is off, it doesn't even notify me of incoming calls! Talk about useless...

So you can still call others when the phone is off, you just don't get notified if others call you? When mine is off, I can't even play games on it, that's totally unacceptable! :)

Solutions:- 1) Buy an alarm clock 2) Leave the phone on and charging overnight 3) Potentially oversleep 4) Write a complicated piece of software to try dialing your phone every 5 minutes then set the auto-power-on time to just before you want to wake up 5) Outsource the problem to your significant other.

forget the power off, it will not work if it is in silent mode.

Buy an alarm clock, never trust any phone, if its important like flight in the early morning. I have strange problems with my windows/nokia/iphone.
