Google is threatening to pull out of China because of the censorship. Hmmm... Try this. Go to google homepage and type JEW. The message comes up Offensive Search Results We're disturbed about these results as well. Please read our note here. www.google.com/explanation However, do this for "Wog", "Nigger", "Coon", Paki" or any one of a dozen other racially offensive epithets and there is no warning. SO, Is Google being a little hypocritical over censorship? Or is it being run by Jewish Racists?

My point being they have a warning on an inoffensive word, "Jew", in case there is content that may be offensive, and yet give no warning like that on obviously offensive words. Just strikes me as being a bit odd.

I have assumed it's if they receive enough complaints about a particular search result, there was the whole incident involving the Michelle Obama image and they did the same by taking out the ad space just above that. So perhaps something particularly bad popped up about Jews and they received enough complaints or bad media to have to make a comment.

The trigger for this seems not to have been censorship, but a large-scale effort to hack Human rights' advocates' gmail accounts: http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2010/01/new-approach-to-china.html[^]. While we're at it, I'm not sure saying there was no holocaust and saying Chinese people should get to choose their own government are reaaallly in the same category; I agree they should extend the coverage of their "We're not racist" message, but that's a different issue. Censoring what you consider to be evil and refusing to censor what you consider to be good doesn't make you a hypocrite; it just means you're taking a moral stand.

OY gevalt! Co-incidentally, I was watching a documentary film on TV last night called Defamation[^] filmed by a man called Yoav Shamir. The film interviews various interested parties on the subject of anti-Semitism, focusing on the effect perceptions of anti-Semitism has on Israeli and U.S. politics. One of the main players in the documentary is the Anti Defamation League, which is set up to fight anti-semitism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Defamation_League[^]). One frequently implied (IMO) criticism in the film is that the ADL has a tendancy to cry wolf, especially over something called "New Anti Semitism", which largely seemed to me to be stifleing any opposition to Israeli policies/actions by deeming those who made them anti-semitic. Its worth a look, it seems to have a slight bias, but that is alway a point of view I suppose. Anyhoo, at the bottom of the link google provideshttp://www.google.com/explanation.html[^], is a link referring to the Anti-Defamation League.
