Hi, If I open masterpage in the visual studion it comes as a very generic page . But I open it in sharepoint I can see all the links and images. I need to make changes to these images but am unable to make changes and publish back from sharepoint designer as it gives a server error: access denied. I was logged in as the administrator. Can you suggest how I can make these changes in masterpage.master? :(( please reply.

To remedy the problem, go to Site Actions > Site Settings > Modify All Site Settings > Master Page and Page Layouts. This takes you to the master page gallery. Now go to Settings > Document Library Settings > Permissions for this Document Library and give the user (or the group he belongs to) read permission.
