Free e-book on High performance computing [modified]
-
Just received an email from Sun that they've a free e-book to offer on High Performance Computing. You could download it here. [Added] Don't bother, people here think it's pretty bad! [/Added] I haven't read the book myself and don't know how good it is. But it's free and may be good, so I thought I'll pass it on.

After looking at it, you do get what you paid for. But, thanks, I just learned that even I could publish an ebook if that is the required skill level.

((λ (x) `(,x ',x)) '(λ (x) `(,x ',x))) The Scheme Programming Language – Fourth EditionGood java is about 10x self taught hobbyist .net and good .net is 10x 1st year CS student java. As far as I'm concerned and without bothering to do any meaningful benchmarking, the jvm can be a bit of a dog to get going but nominally, .net and java give the same perfomance.

I want to complain! I downloaded my copy and there were NO TITS on page 3! Rest of the book is up to the Sun standard for "journalism" though.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand.

I thought it was about computer systems, not ornithology. I bet there were no boobies, shags or cocks either.

I read the first part; it's a multi-page advertisement for AMD and SUN masquerading as information. (BTW, at the start of one chapter, they talk about open software and say that it's "not free as in a free lunch" but "free as in free speech". Am I the only one who finds that after all these years, this statement still makes no sense?)

No, you're not alone with that sentiment. And after all these comments, I think I'm not going to read that book after all. Sorry about the thread, I thought it were going to be something really good and so did I share it.

You clearly need to read more Heinlien. The full citation from The Moon is a Harsh Mistress is: "Oh, 'tanstaafl.' Means 'there ain't no such thing as a free lunch.' and isn't," I added, pointing to a FREE LUNCH sign across room," or these drinks wouldn't cost half as much. Was reminding her that anything free costs twice as much in the long turn or turns out worthless."
