Why Windows 7 (x64) (For some so called Weven) sucks today...
-
Installed Fresh Win 7, installed all Dev Tools (VS 2008, SQL 2008...etc.). Saw some updates under the hood of Windows Updates. Filtered them out, and installed the Critical Security updates. Asked to restart the PC. I did. Saw message of "Configuring Windows"...automatic restart happened after the message... and . . . . It keeps on restarting over and over again and again till eternity. Windows is screwed. Tried Repair and Restore. Nothing worked out as I had only one restore point to restore to. Reformatted the hard drive and installed the same sucker Windows. But this time, kept NO WINDOWS UPDATES (ASK ME NEVER) option. God help Microsoft.

That's been a problem with windows since XP (at least). It's likely because your system is set to restart on system failure. That means you don't get a chance to diagnose the real problem because you don't get to see an error screen. You likely wound up with a bad driver that causes the system to crash shortly after booting. If it happens again, press F8 during boot to get into safe mode and turn off the restart on system failure option. Then you'll get an error screen upon rebooting and you can attempt to fix the real problem. Cheers, Drew.

It didn't allow to boot into safe mode either. I tried each and every possibility, then only re-installed. And it wasn't a driver problem, because it happened only after Windows Update.

Your logic is weak, old man... Maybe some of those updates had drivers in them? After all, it did ask for a reboot? Iain.
I have now moved to Sweden for love (awwww).

That's SOP for me. As I've said many times before, I want a stable development environment, not a testbed for every patch that Microsoft deems I absolutely need.

I'm not sure God has anything to do with it. ;) Marc

Heh, or it's a driver problem that only became a problem after Windows Update. Seriously, I've had that happen, even when the updates didn't include any drivers. Cheers, Drew.

Buddy, No offence, but maybe your logic is weak. Because, not only driver updates require a reboot. Check this out. It was an IE Update. http://geekswithblogs.net/WinAZ/archive/2010/01/24/win-7-update-boot-loop.aspx[^]
