I haven't spent much time on Facebook for my own purposes, but now I have a client requirement to automate posts of their articles onto their profile via Facebook's API. So, I brought up the site & have been browsing the RTFM Help section with either embarrassing ignorance or admirable zen-like beginner's mind, depending on your point of view. So, it appears that you can update your status on the Wall. Groovy I suppose, but doesn't seem to really be the best vehicle for posting an article on a Facebook profile. Events look useful, but not every article is an event. Of course, you can link to an article on your own site, but my current understanding is they want to post full articles on Fb. And then there are videos, photos, etc. What Facebook features do you guys use for presenting article sized text blocks?

Gave up on Orkut then? For some reason Orkut is popular in just India/Brazil, it's not very popular in the US except among Indian and Brazilian Americans. So it's not that useful for you as an advertising medium.

Funny name, Orkut. That name means it can never be popular in Dutch speaking countries, no one will take it seriously due to the "kut" in the name

I was on Orkut ages ago because people were talking about my second book, Unite the Tribes, and I somehow found the conversation. That kinda surprised me, actually.

First step, create a fan page - don't post work/career stuff to your personal profile. Second step, use the Networked Blogs application to link your blog (you do have a blog, don't you?) to the fan page. Domesticating IT[^]

Orkut is rubbish. The crowd is extremely puerile, and most (OK, many) people I know have the picture of whichever hero or heroine is ruling the roost of Tamil cinema on their profiles. Don't even get me started on sprinkling Unicode symbols all over their display names or changing them to "Sneezing in New Jersey". I don't know why I haven't deleted my Orkut profile yet.

Cheers, Vikram. (Got my troika of CCCs!)

Ah, the usual: drugs, prostitutes, and getting fat. Pretty much the norm for any developer. :) I'm actually losing the fat - again. Started hitting the gym again this past May, so it's been about 8 months into it. And that's my life... what's been going on in your neck of the woods?

Ah, the usual: drugs, prostitutes, and getting fat. Pretty much the norm for any developer. :) I'm actually losing the fat - again. Started hitting the gym again this past May, so it's been about 8 months into it. And that's my life... what's been going on in your neck of the woods?

The fat I can relate to. The drugs and prostitutes, hmmm, got enough debt going as it is!

Well, I did a 5 month stint in NYC working on Wall St because I couldn't find any contract work. That's definitely the worst experience in my life, working for a big bank (ticker "C", oh, did I just say that???) Ended up with two great contracts from a couple old clients, so now I'm back at home, working happily. Broke up with my narcissistic gf over Christmas, best decision I've made in a long time. Have been playing lots of Texas Hold'em, thoroughly enjoying the game. My son is going to college, he got his driver's license, and I'm enjoying being "in the money" again for now, at least. *Whew* Marc
