So it's a new year and the UK is out of the recension. Thought I'd ask what people's experience of the job market at the moment is? Thanks

(Not UK so don't know if your interested ;P ) It would seem that here (Belgium) the recession is going to go on for a bit longer. Calls from job agency's have stopped over the last couple months and in the overall picture another 10.000 jobs are going to go out the window in the next couple months (GM closing a factory) so not out of the woods yet. (And is till have to get my promised pay-raise)

If you're a contractor don't you get the hours set in the contract? I've done that since some moron came up with the bright idea of 'day rate'.

Appears to be getting better. I have noticed a marked upswing in the number of annoying calls I get from not-a-clue agents. Money slightly improving, by the looks of things (contract).

Ditto here in the Midwest, though earnings still down from '08 as far as I can tell. On the otherhand having seen the recent difficulty of finding a decent software eng. I suspect the market place is getting tight again.

I know this was more intended to the UK crowd. however on the canadian side: I find that recruiters and HR are still using the recession ( which is on a tail end) as an excuse. I like to think of the current job scene in Alberta as a "possum" market.

Just to point out, we've only grown by 0.1%. There's every possibility that there's just been a slight bump in the stock markets for some reason.

A friend of mine has recently graduated (IT related) and he receives 2 to 4 calls a week here in Italy.

Plenty of places looking to hire but none have decided to pay any money. Money lags behind the demand a bit.

No different to normal really. My place is still trying to find developers, unsuccessfully, and I'm still being bombarded with emails / calls from agencies asking if I'm available. Unfortunately the pay is also no different to normal and the hours over the past few years, if anything, have increased. :(
