- Battery life - The kindle lasts a LONG time, thanks to e-Ink. The iPad is QUOTED as 10 hours, but who knows what the realistic number is? 2) Price - Kindle costs $260. Cheapest iPad costs $500 + $15/month, locked to AT&T

That was the time quoted using high activity. Apple has had some fairly loose definitions about stuff, but when they say high activity, they tend to be fairly spot on. We had 2-3 hour battery life in iBooks and they actually lasted about 1.5 to 2.5 while doing internet and word processing along with other activities. I'm guessing it will go at least 8 for most people. Now if all you do is the book reader, I am guessing it will be close to a Kindle.

That price is wrong. If $500, there is no %15/month. You don't have 3G so no plan required. It is $630 and $15 or $30 /month IF you opt for the data, which you don't have to since it still has wi-fi. You can also just take the plan on months you want and are not stuck in a plan. These are both for the low end 16Gig device. Prices go up a lot as they get better.

why ? IMO it will take the place of the more limited book readers out there for those who are not already using them (because it offers a lot more bang to the buck); if the book selection is good, I don't see the point of having a kindle instead of an iPad.
This signature was proudly tested on animals.
I disagree. A kindle has a nice black leather case and looks like a book. It is smaller, lighter, better battery and is part of Amazon. Readers go to Amazon. Tech people (who don't read that much) buy apple products.
I didn't get any requirements for the signature

http://www.apple.com[^] Kind of strange they did not pick up the iPad.com domain before launch though. Guess that would have given it away. iStill think next year will probably see the iSlate which will be the full OS-X based machine for the upper market segment.

Hmmm, that could be really neat if the maps can be cached without a data plan (and mildly cool if it requires a data plan). Like a super sized GPS. I know TomTom (or a similar company) sells a better GPS for the iPhone (better than the default Maps application), so I wonder if the iPad has GPS abilities built in without a data plan... that would be neat. Imagine mounting that sucker to your dashboard and using it as a GPS. :mouth waters:

Wow, what does it do that an iPhone can't already do? I don't get it. Fail. IMO.

If I can combine it with my existing iPhone data plan and pay nothing extra, than you have yourself a deal. :)

Impossible. The LCD screen will suck several watts of power as long as it's on. An eInk screen only draws power when refreshing; even for a fast reader that's still a duty cycle of only a few percent.
