If you like shooters/FPS's the most - XBox. Just make sure it gets a well ventialted spot (I've had a few friends water cool theirs, reduced the noise a hell of alot) and if it does red ring (failiure rate has been pretty high but it looks like its going down) be very firm, specific and chase MS support constantly as they have a habit of messing up a few things. I am not a big proponant of the 360 though because I prefer to FPS on a PC. PS3 has yet to assign itself to a genre per se. The exclusives have been very good and it's certainly the one I play the most. If you like your JRPG's, SRPG's and eclectics, yeah, PS3. Plus the whole blu-ray thing which shines for very tech effect dependant films.

A couple of years back I got myself a cheap N64 off eBay, Goldeneye and MarioKart :D Guess it all just seems relative from generation to generation. Now I'm back on a proper PC, home built :) I can look into these things more now too, I miss PC gaming. When I last had a PC I was running BF2 on 800*600 on all low settings, now I can max it out easily with full anti-aliasing on a 23" widescreen, can't quite recall the resolution though.
He who makes a beast out of himself gets rid of the pain of being a man.
Get yourself and N64 emulator, superb playing Super Mario 64, although I have this on the Wii now, the kids love playing it.

Neither. It really depends on what kinds of games you want to play and what features you like that each console provides. There are pros and cons for each one: XBox 360 Pros
- XBox Live Gold service is great
- Netflix streaming directly from the console
- XBox Live Arcade has some great games
- Controllers are pretty decent
Cons
- No disc-based HD movies anymore (add-on HD-DVD drive no longer sold)
- Adding a new hard drive is either an expensive proprietary add-on, or a complicated workaround
- Digital direction pad (d-pad) is not good for fighting games
- Netflix streaming require both XBox Live Gold and Netflix subscriptions
- Wireless internet access requires expensive dongle
PS3 Pros
- Disc-based and hdd-based HD movies (through Blu-Ray)
- Easy replaceable hard drives (SATA 2.5" notebook drive)
- Controllers are pretty decent
- Gigabit and Wireless internet access built-in
- D-pad better for fighting games (dedicated fighting gamers will prefer specialty controllers for either system)
Cons
- No longer backwards compatible with PlayStation 2 games
- Netflix streaming requires a disc (free from Netflix) for now
- PlayStation Network is free, but features are not as robust as XBox Live
- Linux can no longer be installed on the new PS3 Slim units
I have two 60 GB US launch PS3 units with hardware-based PS2 backwards compatibility, as I have over 200 PS2 games. I've since updated both to 250 GB hard drives. I don't own an XBox 360, but I have played on the system before and I think both systems are pretty close in capabilities. Research the two systems and go with what you think is best for you. :-\ Flynn

PS3 makes for a really nice blu-ray player. We have all of them -- Wii gets used the most.

[My articles]Well there's me, my Mrs (she doesn't do gaming) and my 9 year old son - does that count as alot? We have fun here, it's a cool house! We also have a Nintendo DS each. In addition there is an original Xbox, an original PS and a PS2... :-D

If it were me and I was not interested in the addicting play of the Wii, I would go with the xbox as Natal is supposed to be out this fall and working on the XBOX.

It kind of goes in cycles. Currently, WiiFit and Sports Resort are the ones I see up most of the time. MarioCart would have to be a close second. World of Goo is another one I see often.

PS3 has better exclusives? As far as I can tell, the only exclusives that were any good on the PS3 were: Drakes fortune (or whatever the series is called), MGS4, and Little Big Planet. I mean its all personal preference. But if you like shooters (like me) then the Xbox is better. Then you have Gears of War, Bioshock, and then RPGs like Mass Effect - [EDIT] Should also mention Halo, Forza, Alan Wake, Fable plus more I've forgotten [/EDIT] all 360 exclusives. The trouble with most gaming websites is that they do lean to one side or the other. You very rarely get an unbiased opinion because by human nature we all prefer one thing over another.

Lol, surely if you like FPS games, the PC is King! :P Console controllers are just too clunky, give me a mouse and a keyboard any day.

XBox. The PS3 is awful online (if you can ever get on a server), although you do have to pay to use the XBox online. Also, you can write games for the XBox using C# and XNA.

PS3, it does more. Just picked one up a week ago (Friday) after work. Its great for a lot of other things that just gaming. The connectivity is amazing and I think it is only going to get better over time. My main uses are... 1. Media consumer of my server upstairs 2. Bluray player 3. Gaming console I do have to say, I've downloaded a ton of demos and I just can't figure out what game to buy, they are all so much fun! Other plus's are no fees for online multiplayer, and the Playstation@Home thing (like second life?) and Life with Playstation, its a neat app. So theres my 8 bits...

It's all personal preference, but I prefer the Xbox. I have a PS3, a 360, and a Wii. I use my Xbox all the time, Wii sometimes and PS3 never. For me the Xbox Live is awesome, I know you have to pay a yearly charge, but it's much better than the PS3 version. I like the controller much more - more sturdy, much more comfortable and it won't give you handcramps. Plus, I think the game line up on the 360 is better - although again it's personal preference. The graphics on both consoles are soo close as to make no difference what so ever, so don't take any notice of the fanboys who state otherwise. :)

I agree, I don't own either Xbox 360 or PS3, but I prefer Xbox 360 without even doing research. I own Xbox 1, never owned any PSs. Before Xbox, was dreamcast, Nintendo64,...N...,Atari, MSX... Still never got a Sony console (despite it always beeing the most popular console brand in Brazil). I don't know, I think I got allergies to it. The only games on PS I've ever spent more than 10 minutes playing are Winning Eleven and Resident Evil. Go 360!

PS3 by a long shot. Blue Ray for the HDTV and all the games to boot.

For me, it had to be the 360... And for the why? Well because I have a lot of movies and TV series on my NAS and the only way to play them on my TV is with the 360 My xbox connects to my home PC (Windows 7) with a few added plugins for Media Center, and then any media I want to watch is streamed. Check out Media Browser[] for the very cool interface I get using my 360 I love my setup. I no longer have a mountain of DVD's / CD's / TV Boxsets taking up space in the front room (They're all in the attic now!!) The Mrs, use to moan about how its done, but now she loves it, especially when we can select a film by an Actor or Director, and see the synopsis before we decided to watch anything

I have a PC, xBox360 and a Wii and I use them for different things gaming wise. I don't have a PS3 so I can only offer my impressions on that one. Here's how I would break them down: xBOX360 - Large Game Selection. Great for driving games (with a wheel). Wii - Lower display resolution. Plays older Nintendo system games. More games for younger audiences. Great experience with any sports game. Also has fitness related games. PS3 - Built in Blu-Ray and lower price makes it the value choice. Gran Turismo! PC - Best for shooters (mouse) although the multi-player experience may suffer compared to the xBOX. Also, as a side note I have played many xBOX360 games that are ported for windows and I have not been impressed. They try to may the controller buttons toa keyboard and it just doesn't work for me.

-Personal taste- However something to keep in mind: if you are a supporter for open source, from my experience the Wii, and Xbox are much more Open then is the PS3; and as such they have a large number of independent programmers pumping out Games, some good some bad, and some that defy conventional logic and turn out to be great(for a reasonable price)... -just a thought.
I'd blame it on the Brain farts.. But lets be honest, it really is more like a Methane factory between my ears some days then it is anything else...

If you want to pay too much for a game console and you need a bluray player, then the PS3 may by your console. But if you want the best games, the most games, the best online experience, then the xbox360 cannot be beat. My family has a 360 and wii ... even my kids (6 and 9) play the 360 significantly more than the wii. Get an xbox360
