I want to build a server machine for a budget of less than $200. Here is what I need :- 1. Compact machine (similar to Mac-mini) 2. The machine will be used as an always on server: web server, source-control server. As number of users may never go beyond 5, I don't need lot of horsepower. I am ruling out using windows server and considering running LAMP on the server. 3. I already have a 250 GB 3.5" SATA harddrive. Is it possible?

Well if walmart can roll back the price another $68 you could get this little guy.[^] Kinda reminds me of the Nintendo Wii.

Yes. That sounds very attractive. :) Probably I can sell My Wii and get $68 :) to finance for that machine.

On second thoughts, it lacks CD/DVD drive. I wonder if l can install Linux using a thumb drive.

I see people have installed Linux on this already. On the bright side this is available at my local bestbuy and with tax it amounts to 213. Still a great deal!

Although its over $200, it is one of the most compact machines around. I mean, just look at the picture its not much bigger than a set of keys. Fit-PC And it has a 1.6Ghz proccessor and 1GB of RAM so it sounds like a good machine. :)

I know you believe you understood what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize what you heard is not what I meant.
