No, that's your first introduction to Compaq. Don't blame Weven for an idiotic installation practice by HP (or for your own foolishness in poweing it off in the middle of setup). There may be a recovery partition accessible from the bios or boot options. As for the install DVD's, well caveat emptor - that would have been a no-go for me - again HP cheapness.
Well, I was looking for a cheap notebook and this was the only one that fit the bill. I wasn't blaming Weven ( as I said above ), I was just making a joke about how I appear to be cursed more often than not.

I only read code that is properly formatted, adding PRE tags is the easiest way to obtain that.
[The QA section does it automatically now, I hope we soon get it on regular forums as well]

Many years experience have taught me never to do anything that may require more than three neurons firing at once whilst not sat at a table with plenty of time. I have a weven upgrade disk, but shall not do it for a couple more weeks, as I have things to do that MUST be done, before risking a failed upgrade. Still, Man points for doing it in the car, minus man points for switching off.

We should start a club.

I turned it on to see if the battery came charged, and as I was in the car, I turned it off. The question is, why would it be so fragile ? Pushing F11 let me reset the install, the notebook is working now.

A step later, it would have told you that it won't install without a fixed power supply, and shut down nicely.

I have never bought a notebook that didn't come with install DVDs before, nor have I had one that had this sort of convuluted setup process, no. I've bought plenty of notebooks, they all just booted when I first started them, with maybe a nag screen I could kill. I lie, I suspect my Acer did something similar to this, and I don't know how fragile it was, but I had DVDs I could just put in to restore it if I'd had to. Having googled, I found out that F11 lets me reset the computer, I just didn't have that written down anywhere. I am burning restore DVDs now, but I am pretty disgusted they did not provide pressed DVDs. Beyond that, it's all good.

I bought the Compaq notebook. At 2.4 kg, it's not much lighter than my old, 3kg notebook. When it starts, it says 'Setup is preparing your computer for first time use'. I turned it off in this step last night, when I first just tried to power it up in the car. Now it says 'Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation'. I've tried last know good, etc. The computer does not come with install DVDs, which I am still furious about. This is my introduction to Weven.

Read this somewhere... User to helpdesk: My computer doesn't work. Helpdesk: Have you installed the software? User: Do I have to install it to use it? Not expected of you, Mr. Graus!!

I must be getting old. It took me reading through about 10 posts before I realized that Weven referred to Windows 7 and not some new MMORPG or development tool.

If this didn't teach you to follow your own convictions, I'm not sure what will ;) Seriously though, while I love OS X now, weven is good enough that I'm quite pleased to run in a VM or bootcamp to either play a game or run software I haven't bought for my beloved macbook pro (or hackintosh).
