So, my notebook (Compaq) came with a ton of games. I was looking at them last night. They allow me to play each game four times. After that, I can click the 'buy' button, or the 'play with ads on' button. I am more than a little mad. Not b/c I want games, because I don't want such drivel on my hard drive. Give me games, or don't. Don't try to trick me into spending more with you or your partners.

That's a leap forward. The incarnation I have made you buy the really bad game to play it. Fortunately, a few clicks uninstalled the nonsense.

Seriously? I thought everyone on Code Project format's the hard disk and installs windows when they get a new computer.

I didn't get any requirements for the signature

ROTFL - well, as previously reported, I bought this computer entirely b/c it seemed a waste to spend $350 on Weven when I could get it on a computer for not much more. And said computer does not come with Windows DVDs, I was able to burn restore DVDs, but they install Windows, drivers and the HP software all at once. So, I don't have disks to just put Weven on there, and Weven was the whole point of the purchase.

Well, on a laptop, you can't really do that without voiding the warranty... After a year, I'll be doing just that on our new laptop.

Yea ... sucks ... a person should be able to purchase a machine with just the OS on it and nothing else. No ads, games, "diagnostic tools", etc.etc.etc. ... just a clean install of the OS.

OK, it seems I need to bring you up to speed. I hate Vista Microsoft kicked me out of the MVP program for hating Vista Weven came out a couple of years after this occured I therefore do not have MSDN Because this is the first OS I've had to buy, I decided to buy a notebook and get an OEM, rather than fork $350 just for an OS, into the pockets of people who clearly hate me.

Amen - I'd have paid a bit extra for that option. Or at least clean OS install DVDs.

I will, if it appears in the uninstall list. I confess to having hardly had time to touch it apart from testing my app, so far.

I'm willing to do both, if you like :-) Actually, I am mad at the OSX installer. I got the 10.6.2 Snow Leopard installer from the Apple store, to save bandwidth. It gave me a vague error message so I spent the night on the Apple forums before realising they gave me the 10.6.1 to 10.6.2 not the 10.6 to 10.6.2 installer. Some sort of meaningful message from the installer would have helped.

I knew about your vista/MVP spat. I phrased my post as a question since I didn't know if you still had a sub for visual studio/sql server/vm OS licenses or paid for/had your clients pay for those separately.

Huh? The upgrade from 10.6.0 to 10.6.2 is a different piece of software from a 10.6.1 to 10.6.2? That's crazy! Do they have a different install for each version x -> version y upgrade?

I methodically uninstalled each and everyone of those games a few months ago - every single game. And then I went to 'my documents' to remove any 'save game' folders related to these games. No point having games with trial periods expired lying around on the hard drive.
