HP games

Yea ... sucks ... a person should be able to purchase a machine with just the OS on it and nothing else. No ads, games, "diagnostic tools", etc.etc.etc. ... just a clean install of the OS.

Bad Astronomy |VCF|wxWidgets|WTLAmen - I'd have paid a bit extra for that option. Or at least clean OS install DVDs.

Just uninstall all that crap and be done with it.

I will, if it appears in the uninstall list. I confess to having hardly had time to touch it apart from testing my app, so far.

1. If CG does that we will get 3 days of Windows Installation sucks message. 2. If he does not do that we will get 2 days of HP crap ware sucks. Which one do you want?
I'm willing to do both, if you like :-) Actually, I am mad at the OSX installer. I got the 10.6.2 Snow Leopard installer from the Apple store, to save bandwidth. It gave me a vague error message so I spent the night on the Apple forums before realising they gave me the 10.6.1 to 10.6.2 not the 10.6 to 10.6.2 installer. Some sort of meaningful message from the installer would have helped.

I don't ever, ever, ever keep the OS that comes from the vendor. First step in stagging a new computer. FDISK

OK, it seems I need to bring you up to speed. I hate Vista Microsoft kicked me out of the MVP program for hating Vista Weven came out a couple of years after this occured I therefore do not have MSDN Because this is the first OS I've had to buy, I decided to buy a notebook and get an OEM, rather than fork $350 just for an OS, into the pockets of people who clearly hate me.

Huh? The upgrade from 10.6.0 to 10.6.2 is a different piece of software from a 10.6.1 to 10.6.2? That's crazy! Do they have a different install for each version x -> version y upgrade?

I methodically uninstalled each and everyone of those games a few months ago - every single game. And then I went to 'my documents' to remove any 'save game' folders related to these games. No point having games with trial periods expired lying around on the hard drive.
Me, I'm dishonest. And a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest.
Honestly. It's the honest ones you want to watch out for... -
I knew about your vista/MVP spat. I phrased my post as a question since I didn't know if you still had a sub for visual studio/sql server/vm OS licenses or paid for/had your clients pay for those separately.

I work for one company, and I work from home. They'd have to buy me MSDN seperately. Sadly, no.

Well, you can download a complete upgrade, but the store gave me the intermediate one. The full 10.6 -> 10.6.2 is 500 MB.

Wouldn't surprise me. Not sure if they still do it, but they used to require a full download of iTunes for each and every upgrade.

To add to my above post, I am now updating my iTunes to 9.0.3 (from 9.0). Using their updater software (Apple Software Update), it is 93.08MB... guess they still haven't figured out how to make an update.

Well, on a laptop, you can't really do that without voiding the warranty... After a year, I'll be doing just that on our new laptop.

Really? I've never heard of that before. Either you buy your laptops from extremely shady retailers or I've got a bridge to sell you...

If you change the hard drive configuration (eliminating their recovery partition), or install a version of Windows or any other OS that was not originally installed on the machine (not counting an official upgrade/update from the laptop manufacturer, the manufacturer and (and often do) void your warranty.

So, my notebook (Compaq) came with a ton of games. I was looking at them last night. They allow me to play each game four times. After that, I can click the 'buy' button, or the 'play with ads on' button. I am more than a little mad. Not b/c I want games, because I don't want such drivel on my hard drive. Give me games, or don't. Don't try to trick me into spending more with you or your partners.

You bought a HP consumer product... did you expect anything remotely professional? :)

Isn't that a feature of the Microsoft retail stores? They sell crapware-free PCs?
Java, Basic, who cares - it's all a bunch of tree-hugging hippy cr*p CodeProject MVP for 2010 - who'd'a thunk it!

"The staggering layers of obscenity in your statement make it a work of art on so many levels." - J. Jystad, 2001I get around that by imaging the hard drive image with all partitions before wiping the system. When Mrs. Flynn's HP recently had to be sent back, we backed up her data, restored the image and sent it back as if it were unused. :-\ Used to use Ghost for backups, but we just recently picked up Acronis TrueImage 2010. So much faster than Ghost and we're able to convert most backups to virtual machines/Windows Backup files. Flynn
