...actually this time it's the pig ugly wife of the war mongering power hungry self serving lying scum bag. Anger as Cherie Blair spares devout man from jail[^] Why on earth are people allowed to use religion as an excuse in this day and age just baffles me. :omg:

I beat someone up, but it is ok, I believe in a god. It is because people are afraid of religionists because they may get sued for failing to crawl up their arses.

Yeah I know what you mean. It just pisses me off because it implies that people without a 'religion' are heathens, and should be punished more severely. I mean come on, imagine if she had said "...but at least you are [insert racial group], so that makes it ok - much better than those [insert another racial group]" there would be uproar and she would be sacked immediately. Why not now? It's still prejudice.

"You are religious, you should know better" So why didn't she give him a harsher sentence? Wouldn't you give a light sentence to someone that DIDN'T know better? =)

The point I was trying to make was the fact that she said "You are religious, you should know better", which is wrong. A persons religion, skin colour, toilet habits etc should not have any bearing on a criminal case. Having a sentence reduced/increased depending on your personal beliefs is just nonsense. It's prejudicial, judgemental and subjective.

I know, I was also pointing out the hypocracy. If they know better, they should be punished. When my 4 yr old does something wrong he is punished. If he didn't know it was wrong, the punishment is lighter.   It is done to bring home the point and let him know not to do it again.   It is usually a stern warning along with exploring the reasons why and bringing home the point.   Heck, guilt through empathy is usually enough. If he knew he wasn't supposed to do it, he is punished more severely.   He has been told not to, so he needs a stern reminder.   He knows we are upset, angry, and we expect better.   Most legal systems even work this way.   First time offenders get lighter sentences.   This guy qualified for that.   But at the same time, he did know better.   That's the kicker to me here. This guy knew better and was told it was okay, because he knew better. The fact that "he knows better because he is a religious person" only makes it worse.   I agree with ya there.   Everyone should be treated equally in the laws eyes.

All good. I probably could have been more clear. Tired this morning and on phone support duty.
