That post about leaving VSS for Subversion got me thinking. I just recovered my password for this old login (member for 5 years, 9 months). I'm wondering if I should start using this older login, or continue using my new login, aspdotnetdev (member for 3 years). Perhaps Chris will migrate my reputation over from one account to the other. That would be . Let's just hope posting for the first time with this old login doesn't crash the whole system...

Now that I think about it, there is a task on the suggestions page to "allow members to donate reputation points". :-D

No way Jose. Split personality implies split reputation. Besides, how are you going to prove both accounts belong to one person? :)

I only read code that is properly formatted, adding PRE tags is the easiest way to obtain that.

When both accounts agree it is so? Or when I change my email address for one account, then change my email address for my other account the the previous email address for the first account, then change my email address for that first account to the previous email address of the second account (swapping the email addresses). That'd at least prove it to Chris, who I'm sure can see those details on the backend. :-\

that is insufficient proof; all it shows is both of you are cooperating for some obscure reason. Chris won't be fooled that easily! :)

Now you are talking semantics. Suppose I walk in the CP headquarters and I login to both accounts in front of Chris. Does that mean that I own both accounts, or does that mean I merely have the login to both accounts? Perhaps the person that created one of the accounts was not me, though if I have the power to impersonate that person perfectly (I can even delete the accounts if I want), does that not effectively make me that person, as far as CP is concerned?

I was going to brush off your opinion as inconsequential, until I saw you have been a member for over 9 years, thereby circularly proving your point to me. ;P And, yeah, I'm thinking of switching to the other login next year so I can go for MVP at the end of this year without losing the reputation I've already accrued.

No. If you were both to walk in the CP headquarters at the same time and each login to one of those accounts, that would strengthen the assumption of you being two distinct people. However, you can't proof the negative, as there is nothing in place to proof your identity, and in fact even if one of you is real, the other guy might be held hostage by him somewhere while one is playing the whole charade. Donating your reputation is your best option, however I would insist there be severe taxes imposed. :)

I think I created my original account to download some code, then I forgot that account existed and later created a new account (with my new email). Then I came across the old account somehow (had it written down or maybe I searched through my email), and made a note to come back to it one day. And something recently clicked in my brain (perhaps my recently setting up my old email to automatically redirect to my new email) that made me think to go ahead and recover the password, so I did. And the rest is history.

I only read code that is properly formatted, adding PRE tags is the easiest way to obtain that.

Perhaps I should create a third login so me, myself, and I can confuse matters more. ;P

Taxes when giving to myself... sounds like something a government would do.

There might be a reimbursement request form available somewhere, but I trust that will require irrefutable proof of identical identity for all of you. :)

How to bankrupt a government (before it has a chance to do that to itself):

                                          • Give a gift to yourself.
                                          • This will require you fill out paperwork so you are reimbursed for the gift you gave and so you are taxed for the gift you received.
                                          • Also, you will fill out some paperwork to get reimbursed for the paper you bought to print out this and the above forms (because the government will give you money to cover your costs of doing taxes).
                                          • Next, give that gift to yourself a trillion times or so and pay a service to print out and fill out all that paperwork for you.
                                          • The governement will be so overwhelmed when reviewing the paperwork, it will put itself out of business.

                                          ;P
