Bwuhahahaha - Linux on iPaq
-
I've nearly got Linux running on my iPaq now, I can login OK. All I have left to do is get ppp running on my windows box, and I can then install X and take over the world!!!!! :):) if(E_NOINTERFACE == pThat->QueryInterface(IID_IUnknown,(void**)&pUnk)) { // I aint no pUnk bitch! }

I fried an iPaq installing Linux on it. I followed the instructions I found on a compaq-site (unofficial of course). When rebooting the device, it just blanked out. Dead as a brick. Reset didn't do anything. Dead dead dead dead dead! I double-checked the minicom-logs (installed Linux via the serial port) to see if I screwed up. I couldn't see any error at all on my part! The iPaq is still lying dead on a shelf at work. R.I.P. -- Master, I'm so glad to feel your presence. But you don't seem to share my impatience. I relied upon you to break the silence. I cannot understand your reluctance. Master, I feel so warm and I'm so happy, oh master. Give me some more of the warm little beasts I'm so fond of.

Cool, you'll have to post some pics of it when you get it running, let us know how difficult it was :) I'm actually going to be helping a buddy install Linux on a box of his shortly, the revolution is nigh! Trust me, it's D.E.A.D. It doesn't have a bootable BIOS anymore. Jörgen really made a valiant effort to bring it back to life but no go. We called Compaq to see if they could fix it, they didn't even give a price-estimate over then phone. "Send it to Holland and we'll see..." Yeah, right. Linux would have been cool though. What the heck, win some, loose some.

The iPaq I am trying it on died after a few hours when I first got it last year. If you have'nt already, try pressing in the large button in the centre, and then hitting the reset button, that has brought mine back to life a few times. if(E_NOINTERFACE == pThat->QueryInterface(IID_IUnknown,(void**)&pUnk)) { // I aint no pUnk bitch! }

Been there, done that. The power-LED doesn't light up anymore. I bet there is more life on Mars than in that iPaq. -- Master, I'm so glad to feel your presence. I'm not trying to insult you, but the main battery switch hasn't slid to the side has it? I do stuff like that all the time.;P if(E_NOINTERFACE == pThat->QueryInterface(IID_IUnknown,(void**)&pUnk)) { // I aint no pUnk bitch! }

How dare you insult me??!?! :mad: :laugh: I'm not easily offended. ;) I have checked the batteries, the cradle, basically every square mm2 on it. I did however find an interesting text on the internet shortly after this mishap saying "Installation of Linux on an iPaq may result in the worlds most expensive brick". I haven't used Linux actively in nearly 2 years, and this incident will probably add two years to my track record. Bastard Finnish OS from hell. ;) -- Master, I'm so glad to feel your presence. Jörgen Sigvardsson wrote: "Installation of Linux on an iPaq may result in the worlds most expensive brick". I saw that as well, but the thought of having the most high technology brick in the world ( apart from my SGI Octane which stopped booting one day) appealed to my geek nature anyway. if(E_NOINTERFACE == pThat->QueryInterface(IID_IUnknown,(void**)&pUnk)) { // I aint no pUnk bitch! }
