Is WinAmp Pro worth it?
-
Recently I had WinAmp [free] fail to play some videos (it played the audio but not the video.) VLC could, but I don't like VLC very much and would prefer to have a single media player. WinAmp Pro claims to play everything, but without a free trial, I'm not sure this is true. It's not a big deal, but was just curious as to anyone's experience. (It would also be nice to have one ripping tool, though EAC has been quite excellent in that department.)

It sounds like you just don't have the right codec. Try installing something like the Combined Community Codec Pack and see if that fixes it.

wow, WinAmp still exists ?!?! I thought it dies of extreme suckyness after version 2.7 (I think it's around that version that it began its slow fall into suckyness ).

I tried versions 2 and 3 and disliked them, but tried version 5 a few years ago and liked it. (One reason I tried it is that I had media files that Windows Media Player refused to play correctly, if at all.)

Not to be too sarcastic, but you did actually read my post, right? QMP plays even fewer formats than WinAmp Lite (and has a pretty crappy interface on top of that.)

It's got multiple plug-ins for everything -- if one plugin doesn't work perfecly on your machine, try another. And that's not to mention that it can use WinAmp plugins.

The best player I have found is KMPlayer - it plays anything you throw at it and has a neat feature I love that allows you to accelerate the video play back without the audio sounding like Donald Duck. http://www.kmplayer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14938[^] If you do a search, you will find there are two "KMPlayer", one for Linux and one from Pandora TV. The second of the two is the one I recommend.
