I am having staff troubles: 1. Stopped by Police last week and arrested for unlicenced driving and outstanding warrants - havn't heard from him since and I assume he is at Long Bay (jail) 2. Autistic child sending wife mad, time off to organise life. 3. Wife done a runner with the car and child, time off to organise life. 4. Broken leg (fell over on the driveway in the wet) - Pins, rods and many months off work. 5. Oral surgery - week off. This is from a workforce of ten! Anyone have any spare hamsters?

You could look at it the other way........less people == less distractions and potentially higher productivity! If you get through this dilemma then you know you were over staffed and maybe time to chop a couple.

These guys are skilled labourers. They run large, state of the art chemical batching machinery and probably lift between 3 and 6 tons of materials per day. They are very well paid and I rely on them enormously. Last year, I had to lay-off the useless and the weak and only kept my core slaves who had to live with reduced hours etc. Now we are flat out busy again and breaking production records so I am forced to go back on the tools! There is a light at the end of the tunnel. I have hired a couple of new blokes to start this weekend, and, although they will take a long time to train up, extra hands will make the Senior Guys' lives easier.

I'm sorry too  It has meant that instead of sitting in front of a monitor all day wresting with Business Logic, I have had to go back on the machines (which I haven't done for more than ten years) and have found a whole lot of muscles that I had forgotten existed. Damn those years of having to anything to eat!

It seems our uninformed friend has taken the bait. I will not complain if you want to move the inevitable following wailings from the subcontinent to the Backroom. To be straight up, the company I work for employees scores of Indians, there are no dramas and the guys are all good blokes to a man. I get on very well with all of them and in the fifteen years I have been at this company, the only incident of harassment/violence etc was perpetrated on the Indaian bloke by his Indian ex-wife. Oh, and a Vietnamese guy pulled a knife on a Sikh. Not a good idea to pull a knife on a Sikh! Let the party begin.

I can pick bits out of a biased article if I want to too. I live in Australia and dont see the radical crap the Indian Media spouts.

That's the reason I had a Joke icon in my earlier post :)

Yeah, I realised that too late. :( No offence intended - (For the world): I am sick of the "minorities" (a dreadful expression, and not meaning ethnic minorities exclusively) dictating policies that affect the entire population. However, everyone has to man up these days, and stop making excuses. I do not hear the Greeks, Italians. Lebanese, NZ'ers, English et al compaining about how they became victims of crime in a huge, populous country. Or elsewhere in the world (including India) for that matter. In the context of the Background I grew up in, there are too many "Proffessional Victims".

Please find it in your heart to forgive me for being insensitive enough to bring a moment of seriousness into the Lounge....but how is the IT sector doing in Australia? I've been contemplating giving it a look. //L
