More likely everyone would have to take on two jobs to pay the bills

Hey, that's almost a normal working week, but with some variety. :)

Some 'think tank' in the UK has suggested that we should cut the working week to................ 21 Hours[^]. Yeap, that's right! 21 Hours!! I do that in 2 days! And I quote: "The foundation admitted people would earn less, but said they would have more time to carry out worthy tasks." I assume by 'worthy tasks' they mean busking, because we'll obviously be unable to pay the mortgage. What a bunch of twats.

Do they mean all at once or spread over the normal work week or what? These people are somewhere past stoopid. Rememebr, left wing unthink tanks only say things that, if they were implemented, would mean more state control of how you live your life. By default, they want to take away freedom of choice. If I saw that coming I would buy a 2-up-2-down, string vest and a cloth cap.

Yeah I know! Can you imagine the banks saying "Oh look, the working week has changed to 21 hours, I'll tell you what, to help people out - why don't we reduce everyone's mortgage by 50%" And these 'think' tank bastards have been paid to produce that report! Even I could tell you working less is good for you, it's not rocket science! :)

Wow.......most people on this planet do 48 hours in 2 Days......... :) On Wednesday day alone I had a 21 Hour shift due to problems on the platform [6am wed to 3am thursday]......then i had 3 hours sleep and was back on shift for the next day (It takes me 20 seconds to walk from my cabin to the control room + my office on the platform, so didn't feel like i had even been to bed i was in such a zombie state.)

We produce enough food to feed everyone with proportionally very few farmer-hours involved. A lot of other jobs seem to just keep people busy. For example jobs whose end aim is to help people make a choice of one product instead of another. I'm not saying they're all useless, but are we so obsessed with our own importance that we can't see that the world would still turn if we were all (including farmers) doing 21 hours a week?

I would imagine some smart cookie in Accounting (I know that's an oxymoron, but go with it), would figure out that salaries under the new system could be set at 21/40th or 52.5% of the salaries in the old.

Well, if I signed on for $70k/year, and they only want me to work 21 hours per week, that's their deal. I still get $70k/year. This idea is daft anyway.Cutting people's salaries in half will immediately thrust everyone onto the welfare roles, and nobody will be able to buy a home (or even a car).

I agree that we spend a lot on crap. And, in an ideal world, yes, we would only work as few hours as is possible. But do you honestly think that it will happen? We live in a capitalist society, and that isn't going to change overnight. I'll lay my house on the fact it doesn't change in our lifetime.

Sounds like some of the crap that was/is going down in a South American country. They wanted to make mandatory 4 day work weeks, which sounded great, except for 2 things hidden in the fine print: 1) people would all get 80% of their pay 2) the extra day would have to be spent doing social service work -- for no pay. You can imagine how well that went over!
