I am thinking to pursue a master and phd in the near future, should I first build more working experience (currently 3 years) then apply or apply directly or its not worth it from the start? Financially I got no problems and it probably will be in Canada.

A PhD is good if you want to specialise in a narrow field (i.e. your research topic) and / or you are interested in academic research. The MSc depends upon your current level of qualifications and experience. A newly qualified MSc has an Edge over a newly qualified BSc. I read a [taught] MSc after several years as a techhie without any IT qualifications which was really like a "BSc++", obviously this has stood me in good stead. If you have a good BSc in Comp Sci and experience, I am less convinced an MSc would give so much of a boost. A research MSc is much like a mini PhD, so again it would probably be more about specialisation.

Let me add to what keefb said. Yes you will be specializing in an area for PhD but it does not mean you have to stick with that area for your entire life. And for PhD the most important question to answer is why do you want a PhD? If you are not clear then probably PhD is not for you. -Saurabh

Work experience is important when you want to do an MBA degree. However it also depends on the college/institution you plan to apply to (for your Masters). Find out what they are looking for right now. If you are not clear on the college yet, do a general research to see if some of the good colleges in Canada prefer working professionals for a Master's degree.
