What about that thing where chicks skate next to some weight and rub the ice to make it go faster ? Curling ? Hurling ? I forget.

It was a sport back in the 70's and 80's when they drank about thirty pints throughout the matches, only real men need apply back then. Now they drink herbal tea and do yoga so they can concentrate, next the crowd will have to be quiet like during the tennis.

So how do you guys define a sport? What about cricket, where you can take a nap during the game and not miss much?

Well anything with style points or multiple judges is questionable. Cricket is the ultimate sport

I totally disagree. It takes much more of an athlete to do auto racing than figure skating. You get in a car full of gasoline fumes that is 130F and drive around for 3 hours at around 185 MPH.

Darts - now that's a sport, requiring as it does highly refined hand-eye coordination, a steady hand and balance, and an extraordinary bladder capacity. I've never been a Master at it, but I've placed well in my fair share of tournaments. I haven't so much out-thrown my competitors as out-drank them, but it's all part of the game strategy.

Reminds me of my one claim to fame, I used to play a lot of snooker and I once beat Eddie Charlton at Manly Leagues Club in Sydney, what I do tend to brush over the fact that it was 1am and he was thoroughly pissed at the time.

So how about Ballet? They don't appear in the Olympics, but they still do compete (e.g. Prix de Lausanne). On the same note, so do musical soloists... and some do play with more vigour than some cricketers playing cricket...

Yeah, I like warcraft, unreal tournament, and even mario kart! now, those are nice sports, don't you agree? Ah, and I did like that on the judges, now I can talk about football (soccer), in fact between more judges a game requires the less you can trust it, why do they need the judges otherwise?. And style points? what's that?!? my life is free from anything with style points. I often find hard to tell if something is art, sport, game or just a kill-time. But for game and kill-time there are more formal definitions, as the in game it has two or more people and one wins at the end. In the kill-time, it's wathever you do alone for your joy... I think . Ahem... So most sports are games, but are games sports? Now, what about chess, they say it's a sport, isn't it?

Reply 1: Sport is stupid people spending an inordinate amount of time training to do something that most people do for fun, so that they can score more points at it than other stupid people who spend an inordinate amount of time training to do something that most people do for fun. So ice dancing/figure skating is a sport. Reply 2: What's ice dancing/figure skating?

At least with motor racing there is a clear winner - the guy who went across the line first (assuming no rule infringements). There is no "Artistic Impression" element which is subjective and thus not measurable. If you allow that you could end up with something like Synchronised Swimming being a sport! Synchronised Swimming is a sport? :omg: Are you sure? :wtf: Oh damn.
