Hi , I am fairly new to sharepoint and I want to display data from a list in sharepoint like a table with colums like author, date added, title etc. The title column should be like a link which when clicked, takes to the list item page. Which WebPart should I use and how do I configure it.

You just create the list and it should be available in the gallery. check List View Web Part[^]
