Recover data after formatting?

Any recommendations for software (preferably free) that can recover data from a formatted partition (on Windows 7)? Googling turned up Restoration[^] and PC Inspector[^], has anyone used them?

I have used this[^] once. Seems good. Although, do not forget any such software does not guarantees recovery. You can get the files back only if they were not wiped off the disk. Edit: Added "used". Missed it out in original reply.

I've used restoration and it's pretty effective if the sectors have not been overwritten. Don't do anything with the hard disk, and if possible, put it in a host PC as a secondary disk and try restoring. You can also try Recuva, it's a very good piece of software.

If you did a "fast" format, there is a remote possibility that recovery software might work. If you did a full format, then abandon hope.
