Maybe you would have preferred the thought invoking Precious[^]? That is a film that deserves a lot more recognition than it has been given. Despite the many nominations and awards it still deserves more. Unfortunatly the subject is not shiny enough fo rsome people...

Fantastic film. Definitely second the recommendation for this one. Decent storytelling, and great really believable characters. (And it turns out Maria Carey can actually act. I never new that)

What with children and the ban on being blind drunk at the cinema [1], I'm more likely to wait for a movie to come out on DVD. By my calculations watching anything at home and makeing the pop-corn is cheaper and better. Especially as when you go to the fridge for more beer, they won't pause the film in the theatre. [1] That ban may just be for me... :-O

Shiny I lkie, semi naked I like. But, maybe I'm just showing my age, story-line is rather important.

Annie Hall won the Oscar, was it really better than Star Wars?

Well it was a good movie, but I'd agree I don't think it was *that* good to win as much as it did. Renner was great, and the screenplay was too...but I think District 9 and Inglourious were much better overall. Avatar wasn't best picture material though, but maybe should have gotten directors, as Cameron handled the 3d without making it gimmicky.

I don't tend to buy too many films/tv, more of a renter/orange wednesdays :) However, The Hurt Locker is one of those I'll certainly be going out and grabbing the blu-ray of!

Guess that's another plus of physical media, feel free to watch in whatever state of mind you see fit :D

Wait until you have kids. Not stricly true as I had a few hundred DVD's before I got married, but I was travelling a lot back then.

Unlike Inglorious Basterds, which was just another war movie :-)* *OK this isn't strictly true & it should have won.

Thanks for quoting that section, highlighted a terrible error by me! I'm not brilliant at constructing a sentence/spelling, but I always maintain that I get to/too, its/it's, your/you're and there/their/they're right as they're easily to remember! It made me cringe to see I got it wrong.

Me and Miss Girlfriend have bothed voiced our dissinterest here, not for another 10 years or so we've both said (we're both 23). However my brother is awaiting his second, so I'm sure we'll be "called upon" from time to time :)

I have not seen the Hurt Locker film... I've seen Avatar and I think that it deserves only technical prizes as the story is predictable and so on... I found it somehow original, and it is a plus that it is not based on any kind of story, neither a comic... Could any of those reasons have influenced to give to THL the oscars: 1. First possibility for a director woman to get the oscar. 2. First aniversary of something regarding Irak. (I've not followed that war, yesterday I heard that in the radio). 3. The universal woman day was yesterday. (This is something I heard yesterday on the radio too). 4. James Cameron ex-wife and James cameron had it very clear that he would win... 5. Avatar has got a lot of money in the cinemas, if they put more glitter in another film it can get more money for the industry... BUUUUUUT... Probably it deserves it... Those are things I've heard yesterday in a cinema special program yesterday... of course there were people that were agree on that and people that weren't... I've not seen the movie then I can't say if it is true or not...

Not seen The Hurt Locker. I think the best movie is always hit and miss as far as I'm concerned. I can think of at least two that I watched after they were awarded the gong that I personally felt were garbage - actually in one case it was a film with best actress rather than best film.

So according to you which movie deserves the Oscar?

It's worth to watch.

I would have gone with Up. Then again no other movie has made me want to stand up 10 minutes into it, go out and find the director, and punch him in the face for making me cry like a little girl, OVER A EFFING MONTAGE.
