Maybe you missed the part at the bottom, NewEgg seems to kill itself on service. Very few people can complain about their customer service or their returns process. The number one reason I buy from them is the no hassle returns.

Hey, no need to tell me. I use NewEgg all the time. Still a little disappointing that this slipped through, no?

I've been doing some research on this. It looks like one of NewEgg's suppliers (D&H??) Ipex is the culprit. Apparently D&H has sent Cease and Desist orders to several websites that have reported this. NewEgg has also apparently stopped shipments from the warehouse in question and is working to replace the fakes with real i7's. All this before it was widely reported. So yeah. I'm going to trust NewEgg on this one. --Edit-- Apparently it wasn't D&H, it was Ipex and NewEgg has ceased their relationship with them. Bad legal troubles ahead for Ipex though.

I very rarely use the 'OrangeStripe'Direct.com website to buy anything because in the past I've had problems with them. So on Saturday I break down and use them to buy a 3-item bundle (barebones shuttle, ocz ram, AMD proc) for $412.92 ($384.99 + tax $27.93). I get the invoice today for $634.50 ($591.60 + tax $42.90) and call to complain. They try to get me to authorize the additional amount on PayPal and I throw a big-a$$ fit about that. I point them to the original item number on their website and show them that the price quoted in their first email to me is correct ($384.99) and that something is seriously wrong on their end with the invoice and that they need to correct it. No Can Do. However they will only charge me the $412.92. Absolute last time I well ever order from them, EVER. So I'm pissed. But here's the icing on the cake (I looked up prices on their website as I was complaining to them to make sure I was absolutely sure I knew what I was talking about):

Item No Price on Invoice Price on Website

          A79-7851 344.27 69.99
          O261-8082 247.33 94.99
          S451-3156 0.00 199.99

          Total 591.60 364.97

For those of you that have been paying attention: Price of Bundle: $384.99 Price of Items Separately: $364.97 <== WTF? I should mention free shipping either way you ordered. Since when is a bundle MORE expensive than buying the items separately? Now I'm extra pissed. No way I will EVER do business with the scum again.

I see the price of the bundle as 329.99. If you were billed 384.99 for that today I would call and complain, ask to speak with a manager if they won't help you. B69-4027

No, the bundle in question was B69-4028[^], which amazingly enough is now listed as unavailable.

I had a similar problem with Dell. For one, they offered a discount to employees at my job (guess we are partners with them or something). I check out the discount, and it actually costs MORE to buy a laptop with the discount. The reason is that you are forced to buy a 2-year warranty if you use the discount, which raises the price. Then, after I buy the laptop (without that crappy "discount"), they charged me more for it than what was displayed on the totals page when I checked out. I promptly cancelled the order and got my shiny new laptop from NewEgg, which I love and have had no problems with.

Even for that bundle the individual components add up to 299.97, not 329.99. So buy a bundle, think you're getting a deal but really you're paying $30 more than if you added the components individually. Once again, I won't do business with them again.

Since they learned that people don't actually check their sums and assume it'll be cheaper in a bundle. I have also noticed lately that bigpacks of food often cost more per weight than small packaging.

Fixing it after the fact is still only the second best option. The best option was not to let it happen in the first place.
