Scam? Microsoft? Redundant terms? The usual M$ promo - ends in tears

Not a scam. It's a genuine bill from Azure! I had warned people about this a few weeks ago. The CP article details explicitly mentioned this too and advised people to remove the service early enough lest they got billed.

Does this apply to the first contest as well? I haven't been billed for anything.

Well I didn't get billed either but I did remove my app a few weeks ago. I don't know if I'd have got billed had I not done that. Have you checked the email address associated with the .NET passport/Live Id? It may be different from your signup email. And perhaps that's what they use for communication.

I signed up for azure during the CP promo thingy...and forgot about it... Today I get a bill in my email from them for $77...Apparently the CP app I uploaded used 680 units of the 25 free so the rest was billable. ok...shame on me, I didn't bother messing with it enough to make sure that wasn't going to happen. So today I login to cancel the account or at least remove the project... Nope, I've been clicking links on this god awful website for 2 hrs and can't figue out a way to do either... can anyone here point me in the right direction? Of course this isn't the "right" place to ask but I figured that since there are several others here that did the same thing I did, someone probably knows how to stop it... -edit2- called MS...pleaded my case...they removed the charges as a "one time credit"

I had posted a thread here warning people of this very thing. I deleted the service before the trial expired. Wish you had seen that thread. Anyway you are not the only one to have got bitten by this.

IIRC, they have sent tons of notifications before starting to bill. Or at least I received a ton of notifications.

I did the first contest and then signed up for azure during the 2nd contest but never uploaded a new project. At the time, I saw that the old project was still there but couldn't figure out how to delete it and it said read only so I guessed it wasn't active. It was the project from the first contest that incurred the charges. If I had figured out how to delete that project, I would have been in the clear since I never actually uploaded the project for the second contest.

I see the billing but no usage stats similar to AWS. Does Azure have that?

I'm not familiar with AWS but you can see usage stats for each project by going to the billing portal and then clicking "view my bills" on the right column and then "View Online Bill/Invoice". From there you can click on another link to see bandwidth and processing hours usage.
