Google Street View has been updated today to include virtually the entire United Kingdom. I'm absolutely loving it. You can go pretty much everywhere there's a road, even down little country lanes. I've spent most of this morning exploring the country from the comfort of my chair.

Today? I checked it out last week and street view was already available for London, UK. The quality and resolution is much higher than for major US cities which is a little disappointing. You'd think they'd give priority to the country where they are incorporated in. I guess they have improved their mobile videography techniques now, so the more recently added cities will have better resolution images. And hopefully they'll upgrade the street view imagery for US cities later this year.

I don't know if the local police(wo)men tried to arrest the google van for anti-social behaviour when they photographed the streets.

      Watched code never compiles.

Based on what I read, they only do that if you have an SLR, and specially if you also have a tripod. Driving around in a vehicle with a 360 degree camera with continuous shutter clicks is apparently of no interest to the British police

Yes, major UK cities have been available for a while now, but today they opened up all the other places. Which is far more interesting to a country boy like me.

I objected just to see what would happen. The house can still be seen from the sky whch makes it a tad pointless to object in the first plcae (Would they remove the overhead image if I objected?). Still, can't be asked to ask them to put it back.

Aha, thanks for noticing. My parents spotted the googlecar about two years ago, and being the geeks that they are, they followed it. That's them, in the red Audi[^] They followed it where it got stuck up a country lane, but those pics don't seem to have made it live :(

Dunno. IIRC if you're a govt you can get high resolution pictures of sensitive locations removed. That might be partially dependent on how much the US likes you though since there're a lot of high resolution images centered around old soviet military bases. Gee I wonder where those could have came from.

Hey - I can see my house at last!! :) Judging by the picture it was taken last Summer, on a Wednesday (my bin's out :D).

56 ish My Dad's always been into computers, taking every chance when he was young, so he's very IT literate. My Mum lived in a house with three computer obsessed guys, so it's rubbed off on her, too. (My Mum's completed Oblivion, both Assassin's Creed games, and many others)
