What will you do if you found duplicate currency(note)

Today I found one!! :doh: Though it's not big amount, But it is my earned money. So thinking what to do now.

What options do you have? Either recirculate it and become a criminal or give it to your bank and tell them it's counterfeit.

I assume you mean "forged currency"? As I see it, you have a couple of choices: 1) Pretend you didn't see it, and pass it on to some other poor sod. 2) Take it back to where you got it, and try to exchange it for a real note. 3) Take it to the police and let them deal with it. 4) Take it to a bank and see it they will swap it for real money. 5) Burn it and enjoy the warmth. Option 5 is the only one where you get good karma rather than bad and get something out of it! Option 1 is morally (and legally) difficult - since you know it is forged, you are open to "using counterfeit currency" charges and have no defence "I didn't realize it was fake".
You should never use standby on an elephant. It always crashes when you lift the ears. - Mark Wallace C/C++ (I dont see a huge difference between them, and the 'benefits' of C++ are questionable, who needs inheritance when you have copy and paste) - fat_boy

The other option is to give it back from where I get! And do you believe from where did I got!! - From bank's ATM :doh: If I go to bank to tell them then they won't believe me that I got from their bank, other thing is they started to querying me about the note from where did I got? what I do? and some unexpected questions for which I am not ready. AS they are very hostile toward this cases. Also I don't want to be criminal by recirculating it. The last option is to tear it apart. And that would be very painful. :(

In many countries forging or contributing to forgery of government issues documents (which in essence counterfit money is) carry a penalty equative to that of murder. I am not shitting you. The way the leagal system views it is that by contributing to forgery of currency you are undermining the trust of the currency in question. Further more; stealing is bad - but stealing from the government is daft. Simply because they WILL come after you with all they got. My advise is hand in the note to the police, stating where, when and how it came into your possession. //L

They would be able to verify that this currency was dispatched to you by verifying the transaction number. You'll get a refund.

In English common law tampering with the currency used to be worse than most types of murder. Coining[^] was regarded as treason; a category to which only some types of murder (the killing of a lawful superior) reached. Depending on gender the sentence was either burning at the stake, or to be hung, drawn, and quartered.

Play semi-dumb. You said in another part of this thread that you got it from an ATM... Bring it to the bank, and say something like "Hi, I got this from your ATM, and it looks a little funny." Basically, pretend you're not sure whether it's counterfeit... Leave it to them to make that determination. If you establish from the beginning that it came from their ATM, it becomes their problem to fix, psychologically speaking :) Then again, maybe things are different in India... But that's what I'd do.

We have an issue in the UK with forged pound coins. Depending who who ask some infeasible number (1 in 10 i heard somewhere) are forgeries. While everyone ignores the problem it's happy days but the moment someone starts to do something about the problem it'll be like musical chairs when the music stops and everyone loses out.
