Come on... Tell me it wasn't cool at the end, when they have him on the polygraph, and it just suddenly flat-lines... That's gotta be one of the best "Violence is about to ensue" moments ever...

Now hey. I can't agree with you on this. It had Jenny Agutter and Farrah Fawcett in. For people of my age, that's a guaranteed win-win situation.

So cool... I love the dimensional collapsing tech, or whatever they called it... Reduce physical objects to two dimensions and just stack them... Brilliant :)

Good old Tesseract tech. Making anime hammerspace a reality :) On a related note, I did notice that the paper mobile phone she used actually had a prototype shown last year in Tokyo.

Forbidden Planet... eh... I actually remember seeing an off-Broadway show of that... Vague memories, but it was eh... Serenity rocks, of course, though isn't my favorite. My all-time favorite sci-fi USED to be Minority Report, but I just can't deal with Tom Cruise anymore, due to a certain cult that might remain nameless... My #1 favorite is V for Vendetta, but I don't know if you can call that sci-fi.

            Were all movies that SLOW?

Yes. Compare, for example, David Lynchs "Dune" from 1984, maketed as "action movie" at that time. Today, it's "suspense" at best. (Still, Lynch is excellent in setting the atmosphere, the tone.) If you go back in time further, there's more and more "slow explanation". If you arrive at Charlie Chaplins great movies, Langs Metropolis or at Eisensteins Potemkin, you are so slow the MTV generation already falls asleep by looking at the download progress bar. (though these are the movies that survived the tides of times. The early slapstick strips certainly were faster - not as fast as today, though).

Not a bad movie, but the constant internal monologues were annoying. I liked the book better, though I never read the rest of the series.

Hey, nothing wrong with being short! It's the "moronic" part that's a deal-breaker. V for Vendetta isn't particularly amazing in any one way... I honestly don't why I love it so much, but I do... It's just so well-done... Avatar, I haven't seen... I actually REFUSE to watch it. Back when it was "coming soon," they were advertising it so much that I actually remember seeing four commercials for it in a row... First one for the movie, then one for the video game, then one for some kind of sponsorship deal (McDonalds, I think), and then another one for the movie as if I'd forgotten. That moment, I decided I just wasn't going anywhere near the amusingly-nicknamed "Dances with Smurfs"...

Kinda... Here's the summary: 1) I kill people when they turn 30, but it's not really killing. 2) Oh no, it's my turn to die! Well, now it's different! RUN AWAY! 3) Oh look, there's an "outside"... Let's get naked and swim. 4) (45 minutes of them figuring out what "old" means) 5) Let's go back and tell everyone! 6) Boom. The End.

The Sean Connery thing? Man, you just gotta wonder how much he was paying his agent back then to get stuck with such incredibly bad gigs (like the whole Green Man thing).

I dunno... Tried to block out most of that course... Just remember something about Paris... Might have been an old silent film. They even made us watch Apocalypse Now... Another one that everyone thinks is so amazing, but I thought was incredibly dull.... Except for the airborne cavalry... The attack choppers blasting Flight of the Valkyries... That was just awesome.

With or without the holo-projection? Because that was neat :)

Only a matter of time. I love how scfi-fi comes up with advanced things and then real life seems to catch up with it about 3-4 years later. Mind you even that gap is closing.

That's because you were a student then. I've never known a student who was awake enough in the morning to enjoy the smell of anything, let alone fresh napalm.

The Sean Connery thing? Man, you just gotta wonder how much he was paying his agent back then to get stuck with such incredibly bad gigs (like the whole Green Man thing).

That's the one. *shudders* I can only imagine that everyone involved in that film was on huge amounts of cocaine. There's simply no other explanation! :)

I once went out with a girl who was 4'11". That was weird. I'm 6'. If she wore blue it was like going out with a smurf. :-)
